(2/4) Like a king, they wanted dominion over the lands and lives of people who had no say. We don’t talk about this history, because the people our founders wanted to rule not by consent but by conquest were Indigenous.

The news that Trump is flirting with the idea of bombing Iran breaks my heart. Why? Because, along with the humanity of the Israeli people — which I shared in my 2014 Holy Land special — I recognize the humanity of the Iranian people, who have lived under a brutal theocratic dictatorship since 1979.

You can't neg me into performing my heritage for you. All four of my grandparents were Native, with the men being somewhat prolific fathers, so I have quite a few relatives across the country even if we are not close at all. I assure you, I am quite secure in the knowledge of my Indigenous identity.

I personally use Native American or American Indian because it's the phrase most people will understand regardless of where they're from. I don't always specify my tribal affiliation because it's really not any of your business, and no, don't use this as a lazy excuse to call me a pretendian.

and we can call it rage bait but look what makes this dangerous is that there are a lot of White folks stepping up and experiencing this violence for the first time because these aren't the women's march or science marches where you get to wear cute pink hats, wave around clever signs & all is good

and in my decades of experience now with organizing, White folks tend to only really listen and HEAR other White folks...so if this is the information coming from their peers, they are going to trust it, parrot it, defend it regardless of the risk to themselves and others.
