Oh Canada! 🇨🇦 What a game!! (And now my blood pressure can drop back to normal 🤪)

NEW - Fraser Health CEO Dr. Victoria Lee is leaving the job to pursue other opportunities effective immediately. Dr. Lynn Stevenson has been appointed as interim president and chief executive officer at Fraser Health. #bcpoli

On Sat, Mission Hospital had to close its ER due to staffing challenges. ERs around BC are stretched, but the solution to ER overcrowding is NOT building more beds - it's investing in better community-based supports within and outside the healthcare system. www.vancouverisawesome.com/highlights/l...

It was a late night, but lots of energy and enthusiasm at the Chinese Charity Dinner for #Alzheimers last night. We had a lion dance, trivia contest on #dementia, a great talk on risk reduction, and even the God of Fortune stopped by. Great to see the community support for this important cause!

Canadian research discoveries funded by non-profit and government mechanisms led to the development of: 1. Insulin 2. Polio vaccine 3. Cardiac pacemakers 4. Stem cell treatments 5. Ozempic How many people are alive in the world today because of this funding?

Here's a fun chart: the cost of producing electricity via renewables like solar and wind have plummeted, while fossil fuel sources like coal have stagnated. (I recommend reading the article - it's long, but does a great job breaking down why: ourworldindata.org/cheap-renewa...). #GreenEconomy

Name one thing Canada does better than the US? Life expectancy.

Here are some nice mountains:

SCOOP: Kash Patel—whom Donald Trump has nominated to head the FBI—took $25,000 from a production company with ties to Russia propaganda activity to appear in an anti-FBI docuseries.

Saw the movie "Companion" on a whim. 10/10 recommend - don't watch the trailer; just go see it. www.rottentomatoes.com/m/companion_...

Pass around this list of Canadian products.

Dear Americans: you've managed to do the impossible and piss off the Canadians. The 🇺🇸 ran a $63 billion trade SURPLUS with 🇨🇦 in '23 (excluding energy). The US ran a $382.3 billion DEFICIT with China. And you're slapping your ally with a 25% tariff? How do you think that'll impact 🇺🇸 cost of living? 🤷‍♀️

If a picture is worth a thousand words, Geoffrey Bird’s photography says a lot. His work expresses emotion that’s subtle, yet wholly moving. The focus of his work is his wife, Erin - a mother, a friend and a person living with #Alzheimer’s disease. More: alzheimer.ca/bc/en/whats-...

Peter says, “Indigenous families have to use a white person’s name in order to make a relationship with this experience, so ‘the heart always knows‘ is so beautiful because it doesn’t give away our power.” Read the Morin family's experience w the #dementia journey: alzheimer.ca/bc/en/whats-...

Yikes. And this is why we need a robust, professional, vibrant free press, folks. Today, it's a cryptoscam. Tomorrow, it's a national security threat.

It’s easy to criticize vaccines when you’ve never had to bury a child lost to measles. It’s easy to push “immune-boosting smoothies” when you have clean water, plumbing, & sanitation. It’s easy to say “healthy food” is based on one food ingredient when you have access to fruits & vegetables. 1/

Early morning start today with Ash Abhyankar at GlobalTV for an interview with Jennifer Palma on #Alzheimers disease and other #dementias. Many thanks to Ash for epitomizing community service, and to Jennifer Palma for continuing to bring this issue forward. (Now time for an XL coffee 😅)

Not believing in gravity doesn't make it go away. Same goes for #ClimateChange. Insurance Bureau of Canada: 2024 = most expensive year ever due to damages from fires, floods, etc., topping $8 billion. Asking whether we can afford to act is the wrong question. The question is, can we afford not to?

Don't get me wrong - I love chocolate - but the excess packaging is killing me, Ghirardelli. For four, small, individually-wrapped chocolates, a mug, and two hot chocolate packets, this seems like a bit of overkill. You could save money AND minimize your environmental footprint if you toned it down.

Next for #AAM2025: Ash and Erin. Says Erin, “I’ve found the magic of ‘being’ and glimpses of joy and connection.” Ash shares, “many people who aren’t on the journey feel that it’s a burden being a caregiver. But I treat it as a learning experience, giving me a purpose.” alzheimer.ca/bc/en/whats-...

it was [redacted] early, but an absolute privilege to speak with CTV's Keri Adams alongside family care partner and #dementia advocate Geoffrey Bird this AM about the importance of #AlzheimersAwarenessMonth and breaking down the silence around this disease. bc.ctvnews.ca/ctv-morning-...

January is #Alzheimers Awareness Month, so I'm posting stories from ppl with lived experience. First up: Arabella. She lives w mild cognitive impairment. Her advice? Look for the presents each day brings. 💙https://alzheimer.ca/bc/en/whats-happening/news/alzheimers-awareness-month-2025-meet-arabella

Chef's kiss on this: "...as of 2022, life expectancy in Canada was 81.3 years, while life expectancy in the U.S. was 77.43 years. Scientists believe this discrepancy was due, in large part, to the consumption of pancake syrup." Why the US should join 🇨🇦, by Pete McMartin @vancouversun.bsky.social

Some moody winter vibes on Christmas Eve.

Yesterday, we lit a candle to welcome the return of the sun. For me, Winter Solstice means the return of light, the promise of new beginnings, and hope. May we all find light and hope in the coming year.
