you know one of the symptoms of this absolutely rotten view of the humanities? the complaints about jargon. the sciences get to have jargon because they're complex, but not the humanities because they couldn't possibly require that kind of precision or complexity to explain.

the discipline of history isn't just knowing stuff that happened! we don't spend so long getting PhDs because we're competing to see who can memorize the most stuff! we have our own goddamned methods and skills.
