It occurred to me that firing thousands of highly skilled, highly knowledgeable people, some of whom had access to highly secret information, and now have grievances and an urgent need for money, might be considered a security risk. Like, a big one.

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

Wrote about the morally vacuous, strategically unsound (and also wrong!) anti-“woke”diagnosis everyone’s still sticking with, even in the midst of civil rights apocalypse.

i also do not understand the democratic rhetorical thing of always asking questions. "we need more clarity on the faa firings" feels like weak sauce to me. "trump is gutting the faa so your plane crashes and your family dies" just make the accusation instead of trying to impress debate judges

You can, and should, be a pain in the ass when you’re in the minority if it means saving people’s lives. Remember, McConnell, before literally any legislative priorities were introduced by Obama, vowed to make him a one term president because he lost his mind a black man won 1/

i am 100% certain that they are weekend at bernie-ing trump and just handing him papers to sign, the content of which is determined by whoever happens to want something to happen

Trans people deserve respect, autonomy, and peace. Trans children and their families deserve to participate in sports and other elements of public life. If you call yourself a Democrat and think Trump's latest EO "brings up some good points," you need to read the "First They Came For" poem again.

As you watch Trumps actions in his first three weeks, here’s where Biden was on a key issue FIFTEEN MONTHS into his presidency. Did he ultimately do the right thing and get screwed by SCOTUS? Yes. But they dawdled FOREVER and likely turned off millions of voters in doing so.

Good! More of this

Congressional Democrats should remember that their base will absolutely hold them accountable for their inaction right now, while the slim slice of voters who actually care about “reaching across the aisle” won’t pay attention to the news until October 2026 at the earliest

It is really, really hard not to descend into complete despair this time.

if a major politician held an emergency rally about the current ongoing coup by the richest man in the world, I think people would go to it. Shit is well and truly fucked. I can think of a couple of people who should do that right now.

i feel like a lot of americans are going to learn they actually like and rely on government a lot more than they were told they did

Idgaf I’m still fighting for guaranteed healthcare. Aspiration is the answer. Not just “we’re not the bad guys.” We need something more meaningful than that. I want a future worth fighting for. They have no vision. We do. Lean into our strengths and knock them out. 👊🏽

I think that we should be talking about what Trump is trying to do to trans people in the context of the Nuremberg laws.

Truly a hell of a day to figure out just about everyone in my family bas jobs that are dependent on federal grants.

Allow me to add my voice to the chorus of commentators who believe that elected Democrats' response to Trump's blitz of lawlessness has been woefully insufficient. With some exceptions, this looks like total surrender. Embarrassing and alarming.

Democrats are depressing people with this fecklessness. MAGA is launching a revolution, and many congressional Dems are listening to the stupidest message-testers in the business. You're in the opposition - UNIFY, ORGANIZE, AND OPPOSE.

There is actually two generational divides within Democrats - one axis is age (👀); the other is moment of political awakening. Most of the Dems I’ve seen even remotely show some fight are the ones who came into their political power in the last decade.

Trump’s efforts to gut the federal workforce should be understood as part of the broader Republican project to make public services shitty so people will hate and resent the government. For other examples, see most red states. Republicans do not want a government that actually works for people.

This is effectively a snitch on women, people of color, and LGBTQ folks policy. White men can just baselessly accuse any minority of being DEI and get them fired. They created a permission structure to bring back segregation as a matter of policy by calling it anti DEI.

AOC is swiftly emerging as the moral and strategic center of the Democratic party. Take notes, folks.

I’m just going to say that AOC is the acting leader of the Democratic Party until someone proves otherwise. At least insofar as she is responding to the moment with leadership.

I would caution people to stop relying on the Constitution as written to have any meaning other than what the people Trump put on the Supreme Court says it means. "He can't do that" is not a useful response to the things he's going to do. The correct response is "Will the Court uphold that?"

Over and over again, it is clear: the generation of leaders that got us into this mess won’t be able to get us out. We need new people to get in the fight.

Until Democrats learn that “we can’t help to make your life better because of a dumb rule” is a political loser the party will keep losing.

So much of the rhetoric from some prominent Dems re: the TikTok ban has me worried that 1) they have no idea why we lost in November and 2) they're sleepwalking into another Trump term. There's a ton of dismissive condescension when people say they've found community or made income on the app. +

“Well actually Trump wanted TikTok banned first and now he flip flopped” is the most Democratic Party cope ever. Biden signed the ban into law and he and the party knew exactly what they were doing. Instead of dealing with their left flank they tried to legislate it away. And now it backfired.

Let’s be clear: the whole thing is a con. TikTok could’ve kept the app rolling on Sunday but by shutting down & mentioning Trump, he gets to be the savior. One of many examples of companies & billionaires bowing down. It’s BS. But it’s also the reality. Let’s not give Trump anymore opportunities 👍🏾

I think TikTok goes dark tomorrow despite President Biden saying he won’t enforce the ban. People will be angry. Then, Trump signs an Executive Order giving TikTok 90 more days & boom, it’s back. And Trump saved it! Then a right wing billionaire buys it. A massive political blunder on our end.

3 is where dems failed. Dems should have opposed a ban/divestiture. The moment they supported it, they walked right into a Republican trap.

The Dems tried to pass a draconian immigration bill and the NYTimes Editorial Board says they're for illegal immigration. That's why it is not only morally wrong to sacrifice the powerless for political expediency, but it's not even politically expedient.

i think it is great that the press is treating this like it’s just another proposal

it is so important to remember that IN THE MOMENT there was no one who thought jan. 6 was some innocent protest gone awry. everyone recognized it for what it was.

great article about the devaluation of absolutely anything where women achieve 50%. which is a thing.

This is just embarrassing stuff. You don't have to agree with every call the Harris campaign made to recognize that she was handed a very bad hand, played it as best she could, and staved off a generational bloodbath down-ballot. Give her her flowers. www.mediaite.com/news/biden-r...

NY Times, June 21, 1936.

Gotta protect that incel base.

it's so cool that we're gonna get to post this screenshot about like, botched hurricane responses and failed invasions of chile

Dems need to stand on their values, yes.But Dems need to fight because they have developed a reputation - & not only among angry lefties/disgruntled progressives but in general *that they don’t fight for anything* and are therefore inauthentic&unlikely to deliver. This is not the reputation to have!

Trump is now under 50% in the national vote (and will continue trending downward a little more), for anyone keeping count of his 'mandate.'

A lot of people responsible for poor decisions are on a press tour right now because if they didn’t, people would rightfully be questioning THEIR leadership and they know it. It’s weak even by normal left-punching standards. Zero evidence more Liz Cheney would have won this. The opposite, actually.
