I pick one thing every day that helps me drop my anxiety. This week I ordered a paper road atlas; made a plan for my spicy cat to be cared for in my absence; completed a power of attorney form. For me picking a thing and moving that way is super helpful. The News is not helpful.

And finally being of service to others. I’ve been engaging with direct mutual aid with my unhoused neighbors, volunteering at an emergency shelter and organizing a laundry brigade to keep their bedding clean. That’s been closed so I’m not sure what’s next.

Engaging my creative muscles is also good for me, so I’ve been making a lot of stuff. I made and mailed almost a hundred valentines to my beloveds near and far (thanks @courtniewolfgang.bsky.social for teaching me to riso print so I could make a lot, fast!) I’m trying to finish a pair of pants.

One thing I do is make sure I feel as good in my body as possible. Lately I’ve been wearing a lot of things I and people I love have made; focusing on hydration; making sure I’m getting outdoors daily; eating my veggies and taking my vitamins.

That’s correct. I used to be a lobbyist for gay rights in RI and our Catholic Bishop was also from Pittsburgh and whenever someone would ask me to comment on his homo/transphobic stuff I would say “one thing the bishop and I have in common is we both bleed black and gold”

Thank you for this edit. I had the great benefit of growing up in Mr Rogers neighborhood, he was that kind and gentle and attentive IRL too. Seeing him at the movie theater was always a joy. My only correction is he for SURE would have said “Yinz are the adults now.”

This is a really good idea, as is recognizing and thanking them for standing strong. (The first statewide policy campaign I ever worked on was adding gender identity and expression to the RI civil rights bill, in 2001. Glad to see it’s still working.)
