Me when looking at today‘s NYT Connections puzzle:

I feel that if, in 2010, you had told me that Citizens United would lead to someone literally giving oversized $1 million checks to voters in exchange for their votes, I would have called you a delusional conspiracy theorist. And I would have been wrong.

Shoutout to all you wonderful trans people on today‘s #TransDayOfVisibility. You’re strong, you’re brave and we need y’all.

Tough one. Let’s go with: 1. Invisible Man 2. Shaun of the Dead 3. Prey 4. Get Out

My daughter is reading one of my old comic books, in this case from 1994. Its price includes 5 different European currencies, for every country a German-language comic reader might find themselves in (in order: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain). 4 of them were later replaced by the Euro.

This a sign of the dark times in which we live & I'm not bragging about it. My team posted an open position for an industry research scientist and we got 20 times the response rate in the 1st week we normally would & the seniority of the applicants was way higher than the norm. All from academia.

“[I]t’s an alarming signal of an administration that’s fluent in internet extremism and seemingly dedicated to pursuing its casual cruelty as a chief political export.”

I teach this absolutely true fact in my undergrad class and many of the students are very surprised to learn it. They usually have interesting questions and it generates a good discussion.

So we could lose $200B in tourism, $100B in immigrants paying taxes, $100B in weapons manufacturing, $500B in lost tax revenue from firing IRS employees… is it sinking in yet?

These are concentration camps.

The reason DEI exists is so that competent, qualified people don't get passed over in favor of mediocre incompetent white men who had a well-connected buddy. Or so that utter morons who share war plans on the group chat don't hire their brother and get away with it bc they're white dudes.

Oooooh 🤩

Yes! Instant classic, that one

This is where we're headed. Deporting migrant workers and filling their jobs with teenagers who might as well work long hours and stop caring about school, because even if they want to go to college, they'll have no way of getting the aid they need to attend. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

A modest proposal: Just replace the Omelas kid with Elon Musk and everyone will be happy (I mean, except for Elon Musk, but nobody cares)

I bought Twitter for $44,000,000,000 and sold it back to myself for $33,000,000,000. I have 43 kids and no friends. Everything I make explodes

The owner of X is openly offering million dollar bribes to swing the election of Supreme Court judges in the US. If you are a media organisation and are still using links to X on your website and posting there, quite simply.. You are part of this.

The US is going to see the largest decline in life expectancy in the western world ever measured. Just a staggering loss of life over stupidity. www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...

ANOTHER popular mokele-mbembe article, this one with a more open-ended conclusion than I would like. I'm quoted alongside Loren Coleman and Eddy Guimont .... www.popularmechanics.com/science/anim... #cryptozoology

Wow. Bluesky has become the platform where science happens 💫🤩🧪

This is gutting. The University of Michigan has been a leader in initiatives that have helped to combat centuries of racial segregation and the exclusion of women in academia.

“create a ruckus” is a folksy-ass way to cover up that what he’s doing is kidnapping and tormenting innocent people for writing op-eds and protesting. you know, stuff the first amendment says we can do

@profbdp.bsky.social BRYAN! I didn’t know you were on here!
