I teach this absolutely true fact in my undergrad class and many of the students are very surprised to learn it. They usually have interesting questions and it generates a good discussion.

Race is not, in fact, a biological reality. Regardless of what the government claims, "race" is a nebulous categorization based on appearance and descent that changes depending on political circumstances. While it has real social consequences, it has no biological basis.
