Analysis of Trump's capitulation to Putin. #Trump #Putin #Ukraine #Russia youtu.be/DCBEMTbUif0?...

Trump might have gotten away with this sort of thing in the 1930s, but the world is onto him this time around.

Trump is trying to engineer his own Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. It looks like we got nothing, but the key question to ask is what secret protocols are in play? What is Trump personally getting? #Trump #Putin #Russia #Ukraine en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molotov...

I more than half suspect that the "High Tech" DOGE's little tech bros are using is just "Ctrl+F" key word searches for words like "regulatory," "administration," or "security" and then firing anyone related to those terms. #DOGE #MAGA www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CCo...

Back in 1988, I started working on a riverboat. I rose from deckhand to unlicensed first mate. I read "Chapman Piloting and Seamanship" to learn the basics. #BookSky

Senate Democrats have the power to block federal contracts to Tesla and SpaceX. It’s the path to pushing Musk out of politics.

My first few books were about the Civil War or politics. Tonight I will suggest something fun: Terry Pratchett’s “Discworld” series of 41 books.

My last book post today should bring me up to date: Shelby Foote’s “The Civil War: A Narrative.” While not as detailed or authoritative as Nevins, Foote demonstrates how effective a narrative can be in conveying History.

My next book is “Freedom National” by James Oakes. It tells the story of how Abraham Lincoln used masterful politics to put an end to American slavery.

My next suggestion is Allan Nevin’s series of eight books about the coming of the American Civil War, the emergence of Abraham Lincoln, and the war itself.

The wind has knocked out my power but at least my phone is fully charged and I have cell service. I’m going to catch with my “20 books” posts. I things a little differently: I allow a 2-3 sentence comment to give a little context (but not a full book review).

The best time to plant a garden can vary according to your location. Here's a site that can help you plan. www.almanac.com/gardening/pl...

If you have ANY land available, even a tiny urban backyard, you should make plans to grow a garden. Musk and Trump are determined to destroy our society and one of the casualties will be our supply chain. You'll be glad when a pound of tomatoes is $10. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory...

Happy Valentines Day to those who observe it.

Part 1 of 4 in Robert Caro’s master class in how Congress works.

A crash course in local government.

I’m a historian of the American Civil War. The book series The War of the Rebellion Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies is central to historians’ research.

New book thread. Post 20 books or book series that made a difference in your outlook. Here’s the wrinkle: feel free to give two or three sentences of context. No full book reviews, just a short note about why the book is relevant to you.

SCOOP: The US Treasury claimed a DOGE's Marco Elez didn’t have ‘write access,’ when he actually did. Sources tell WIRED that his ability to alter code controlling trillions in federal spending was rescinded, days after officials said it didn't exist.

SCOOP: A US Treasury threat intelligence analysis has designated DOGE staff an ‘insider threat'. An internal email reviewed by WIRED calls DOGE staff's access to federal payments systems “the single biggest insider threat risk the Bureau of the Fiscal Service has ever faced.”

It will be interesting to see how the markets react tomorrow to Trump’s tariff announcements and the Mexican and Canadian responses.

I'm watching a documentary about the Irish Easter uprising and revolution of 1916-1922. There's this one guy who insists on speaking Gaelic, despite the fact that he speaks English, probably better than he speaks Gaelic.

I've seen this image floating around, but Mr. Filipkowski is the first the provide context.
