In the ice-box era, Belle Ewart Ice Co. (est. 1891) was one of the top suppliers of ice to Toronto homes. Their specialty was “pure” ice harvested from Cook’s Bay, 80km north at Belle Ewart (Innisfil). During warm months, an ice supply was kept in insulated sheds at Lansdowne and the Esplanade.
