Meet the disabled vets, cancer researchers, and nuclear techs fired by the worlds richest man

Progressives: abolish the filibuster, expand the courts, arrest Trump, forgive debt, healthcare and housing for all go go go ! Manchin: no Sinema: no Dunkelman: it was the progressives wot dun it cause they don’t like power

For those of you who haven’t yet gotten to that copy of DFW’s Infinite Jest hiding on a dusty corner of your bookshelf, it is, in no small part, about a buffoonish American president forcing Canada and Mexico to join the U.S. It’s all in there. Lemme know if you wanna do a book club.

Big snow last night!

100% of people think life is a solipsistic nightmare

No real changes RE: the garden or the snow…

It snowed a little bit again

Hi all, I'm a WIRED journalist on the science desk. If you're a government scientist or federally funded researcher with info to share about the Trump transition, please feel free to contact me securely on Signal: emullin.06

Garden News: So far, February looks a lot like January

All this interest in Canada and Greenland tells me that at least someone in Trump’s camp knows climate change is very real, and they are thinking long-term. This troubles me deeply.

Who woulda thought that the same Americans who lamented “We’re not gonna have a country anymore!” would be the ones who tore it down

This is such an incredible resource library.gamehistory.org?_gl=1*17by6j....

Garden update: It snowed

Inkle Studios’ Overboard! (2021), set in 1935, makes some good points…

This is going to be my view for most of 2025, so I might as well document this garden’s progress throughout the seasons. Get excited! Updates regularly! Tell your friends!

Toronto’s Gardiner Museum is full of wonders

I’m bringing back calling people deplorable…

If I was a teen who lost access to tiktok I would simply learn to appreciate the professionalism and higher production values of linear broadcast television

If you think about it, the very best books are really just extremely long spells that turn you into a different person for the rest of your life

These are the sounds in my brain, usually:

Another episode in the can! If (like me) you’ve been snoozing on it for too long, go play Don’t Starve, available almost everywhere.

Feed (2022) Something so heavy shouldn’t glide so easy at a whisper from my thumb

I love a good sunrise🥰

I resemble that remark

Many thanks to the Stories in Play Initiative and the Humanities Podcast Network for the opportunity to contribute to this panel:

I am always here if anyone needs to discuss a new Easter egg they found in their latest re-read of DFW’s Infinite Jest. The hardest thing about recommending that book is that it requires multiple reads. Most people don’t make it through the first pass. But it is so rewarding if you do. Every time.

For anyone who’s interested in writing branching, choose-your-own-adventure type stories, here’s an online textbook I wrote as an undergraduate (for undergraduates) about Inky—a free open-source program for doing just that! pressbooks.library.torontomu.ca/playablestor...

This is a weird way to start here, but I’ve been thinking all day about the fact that—what with the Earth, Sun, and all of it just hurling through space all the time—I’ve never, ever, been in the same place twice. And neither have you.
