Imo it's not social media sucks, but the rampant capitalist digital environment that has monetized and rewarded our worst impulses and made that the mainstream decorum. But I guess can you have one without the other? I'd like to hope so. Fighting for those good digital spaces are worth it.

I'm sure he's a nice guy and all, but what a way to summarize his tenure as leader than that.

Sticking to on here and being 99% off Instagram and Facebook really makes it a jarring experience to check on those spaces (usually for friend event coordination). Really remarkable how normalized the ad and algorithm bombardment was for me.

As a Leafs fan, I would simply enjoy having a positive Leafs memory in my adulthood.

The more I watch other sports (namely football in this context), the more ridiculous to me that fighting is an acceptable part of hockey. I think when your starting point is fist-fighting is okay (and expected), the moving target of acceptable violence/officiating is inevitable.

Slowing down of ports is what he's hoping to see - this is great news *to him*. The mindset is less buying and more in-house production. Which maybe in a way could possibly work if there was a plan to support ramping up domestic production. Instead it's "adapt or die" for businesses, fits his m.o.

It's such a predictable outcome. Every coach makes a single comment and the officiating takes a 180 until the next round.

IMO: Critical self-reflection and nuance is not a skill or practice that's promoted in social media use - people are rewarded for fast quips that align with the group we identify with/seek validation from.

I believe there's a component at play where certain concepts have become so hard coded as signals of political/cultural alignment that for some, it becomes a warning trigger to go on defence. I don't say that to be defeatist, but hopefully as part of understanding those connective pieces.

From what I recall, I don't think the Bloc has had the opportunity to tip the scales of power like this before. Likely a prime opportunity for leveraging provincial interests so I'd guess they hold onto that power balance for a while.

If I'm an opponent/critic, I'm arguing they lost a potential 50 seats given the election forecast going into the election period.
