..amid a spate of hate crimes early that year in Portland and NYC. BEFORE Heather Heyer was killed in Charlottesville. The promise of young Mr. Collins and the dreams of his family were cut short. The entire country seemed poisoned by hate. We could see it everywhere.

Republicans and conservatives screamed when people demanded the removal of Confederate statues and monuments from public spaces. But it's perfectly ok to erase Black heroes from official records. White supremacists and christian nationalists are fucking hypocrites.

How about...wait for it...NOTHING? Nothing happens next because the entire story gets lost in the continuing chaos.

Dear Shawn, Apologies. I'm old and don't understand what you just said. I will try a rough translation. The cellphone made communism unsustainable. The real victims were the large number of (nazis? - I don't understand the reference). Thank you. "byadddddd" (clueless)

Yes. People make up labels in an attempt to distinguish between "systems." Communism, capitalism, socialism. However, when individuals organize themselves into groups it's always a hierarchical structure. The few at the top live differently than the many at or near the bottom.

Yes. But (this is a joke) I typically spell realize with a "z." All kidding aside, I once believed there was a system of governance called communism. It might exist in books. But in reality it is a sad euphemism for mass murder. There is no workers' paradise anywhere on Earth.

Putin was a communist like Roy Cohn was a lawyer. He just wore the uniform when it was in vogue. Now that the USSR is gone he wears the oligarchs' outfit. He's a murderer and a war criminal no matter what anyone calls it.

The threat of global communism didn't go away. It was always tyranny. Putin and the Russian Mob took over after the former Soviet Union collapsed. The Chinese Central Committee saw the handwriting and changed optics. Plus Walmart helped them out.

I'm skeptical that upper echelon Quislings like Hegseth, Gabbard, and Waltz will be held accountable. A few lower level employees might take the fall. Nothing to see here.

Some might. Others don't believe anyone not approved by their minister, Fox news, or the militia they belong to.

Did someone say Bernard Madoff?

I think he either dies from a health-related problem like a heart attack or someone takes drastic action. Those seem like the most likely developments.

Wait for the "dead cat bounce" to see if there's a chance of recovery or if the bear market becomes the trend. Things happen faster these days. So, I don't know.

The American social disease of white supremacy. It pops out like a plague and then gets shoved back down like the shameful fear and hatred that it's always been. And then, it pops back up again....

You are entirely correct. American voters kept on electing the wrong leaders.

I'm now retired from the field of psychology. Economics has been my secret love since my high school civics class. Thank you for teaching. Teachers made a difference in my life.

Smoot-Hawley contributed to the Great Depression but was not the major cause. I highly recommend John Kenneth Galbraith's The Great Crash, 1929 published in 1955 as the best read. Consequences of the Peace published in 1919 as well as John Kenneth Galbraith's The Great Crash 1929 published

Dear Sir: Respectfully, there are American commentators such as Thomas Hartmann and Sarah Kendzior who claim this current administration directly descends from the policies championed by President Reagan. I wish they used his "Trust, but Verify" approach when dealing with tyrants.
