It would suck, but if we left, that would make it easier for NATO to accept Ukraine, yes? Looking for silver linings.

Welcome to Bluesky. The air is cleaner here. (As clean as social media gets these days, at least.) I saw the writing on the wall with X and deleted my account just over a year ago. Never looked back.

And Panama isn't violating any agreement. We gave up control voluntarily, because it was too expensive (in multiple ways) to run ourselves given the politics around it.

"If that's what Greenlanders want..." Which is why, of course, Trump, when asked, couldn't rule out the use of military force in 'acquiring' it? Or will it be as Putin does, and invade to "protect" an imaginary faction that supports annexation?

History teaches the constant struggle to be the ruling party/king/dictator is wearying, destructive and unstable. There's never any long-term consideration for actions. If people think it's bad now, they ain't seen nothin' yet.

Some of us did, yes. That makes it more important for those of us who voted in the minority to work and rebuild trust and respect for all these things. Trust in rule of law and in each other is the only glue that holds society together.

Theoretically I suppose that democracy would still be a check, but then, what is democracy but just another norm that can be tossed at convenience? You can't just stop flushing these things once started.

Historically, this never works out, as shown by how few kings and dictators -(and that is what we're left with whenever we abandon rule of law - it turns into rule by men) actually worked for the people.

Fighting for better means fighting the pull inside us to follow the lawless down the hole they're digging.

When everyone cedes the field to the rules set by the lawless, we abandon ourselves to a lawless world governed only by might-makes-right. You don't get to do that and come back later. There is no bottom to that pit, and its no world you or I want to live in.

The entire Democratic party and every self-proclaimed Democrat could cease to exist tomorrow, and they would still blame every self-inflicted wound on the ghosts of Democrats.
