That precious freedom of speech and such…

I think there is something incredibly encouraging & reassuring that the country’s national broadcaster has the independence & strength to strongly challenge the state security service when circumstances demand it. That’s not true of every national broadcaster.

A good illustration of how wrong the "Ru retaliates" narrative is. Any self-respecting journalist should pin this and remind themselves to never fall in this trap again.

The comments are lively on this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GYI...

Nearly 20 years ago today I met George & Iris Lavis. They met on the Normandy invasion beaches. She landed a week after D-day, one of 12 women aboard a landing craft. He waved her ashore & shouted "what are they sending bloody women for when we need ammunition & supplies!" Then they fell in love

Si la Russie gagne en Ukraine, rappelez-vous du nom de cette ville : Narva.

D-Day should be the greatest example of what international cooperation can achieve. instead, I still see it being trumpeted as the supposed triumphs of nationalisms.

What a surprise.

Moral courage in leadership, and one of most impressive pieces of D-Day story: Eisenhower thought he was sending 80% of these men to their deaths yet insisted on going to look them in the eye and wish them luck

Russia, the aggressor, is launching strikes against civilians: these are war crimes and, by their systematic nature, crimes against humanity. Ukraine is responding and striking military targets in legal accordance with UN Charter Art. 51. Difference matters. Period. www.france24.com/en/europe/20...

Pretty cool to see two great Canadian players in the NBA finals in Alexander and Nembhard!

This is why you don't let your military depend on one private company for multiple critical capabilities and also give the owner of that company access to most of your government's data on its citizens.

The trouble is, Russia and China are also licking their chops at all this - no better time to strike than when a possible rival is consumed by internal strife.

very fun to read frederick douglass accurately describe the problem with the pardon power in 1867

side effect of AI-in-higher-ed: having to spend my ONE WILD AND PRECIOUS LIFE googling footnotes for articles that I can't believe I missed off my reading lists only to discover that they aren't, in fact, real articles

I don’t find this convincing anymore because I don’t think that this US administration does in any way take Europe’s actions into consideration. They walk away if they feel like it, independently of Europe’s ability.

really do resent, on a profound level, that the lives of billions of people are affected by the delusions of some of the stupidest people alive

Impressive though Ukraine’s Operation Spider’s Web is (and it most certainly is), let’s dial back the hyperbole about ‘Russia’s Pearl Habor’ or how the ‘rules of war have changed’. Incoherent, ahistorical, and analytically vapid shrieking isn’t particularly useful.

What the what?

I know this isn't an original thought but it's crazy to me the RCAF is still flying the CF-18. I keep reading about dates of when it was to be phased out and those passed over a decade and a half ago.

Ok so I didn’t really need that in my adult beverage but thanks for sharing

You wouldn't know from this article that Mr Kennedy MC reportedly suffers from PTSD and sold his medal because he finds it to be a traumatic reminder of his service.

Trawling through the Finnish Defence Forces archive and this absolute gem appeared. Crying out for an album cover...

Life comes at you fast. 12 hours ago; now.

Has Putin even said thank you?

So, I took a look at the Great Patriotic War again, this time about Barbarossa: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGPP...

In light of losing a large portion of their armour in France, the British government inquired whether Canada could begin tank production to refill its tank fleet. Valentine tank production began at the Angus Shops in Montreal in 1941 with 1420 tanks produced. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII
