Maybe it's not that original storytelling is struggling, but that the stories pixar has been choosing just aren't... interesting? For me the last good original pixar was Coco. Perhaps Disney and Pixar need to go back to the drawing board (for the love of god).

My only nitpicky thing- can we all please remember that the monkey didn't "escape" the lab. It was released by animal activists who had broken in to catalogue animal testing, and then released the animals despite a scientist advising these animals were dangerous (not an excuse for animal testing)
