University administrators: “Let’s have more of this, but, like, critically”

Living in a ChatGPT wasteland. “The paper cited is not a real paper that I or my colleagues were involved with,” Keyes told NOTUS via email. “We’ve certainly done research on this topic, but did not publish a paper in JAMA Pediatrics on this topic with that co-author group, or with that title.”

I want to hear from the bettors who think the Rapture will come AND that Polymarket will still be paying out bets in the aftermath

Just like with masks, the opposition to vaccines from the right was never about mandates. They don’t want you to have choices. They want you to make *their* choice. And now they will force you to do so.

We should have a memorial day for COVID. It is horrific that we as a society have done virtually nothing to remember the millions who have died. Rushing to forget what happened also makes it much more likely that we will continue to repeat our deadly mistakes.

Devastating, but not surprising, work. "COVID-19 has exacerbated inequalities in life expectancy not only directly through COVID-19 deaths but also indirectly through ‘other’ causes of death... reflecting the syndemic interplay of COVID-19, endemic diseases, and social determinants of health."

AMC said we're fucked on a hot mic, but I guess we're not so fucked that we can't build her a 61 million dollar "welcome center." We're laying off staff, unable to fund student work, and struggling to even find classroom space on campus. But sure. A welcome center.

"If Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is no longer the policy of the NIH, do you mean to tell me that NIH's policy is now Homogeneity, Inequity, and Exclusion?"

Each COVID infection risks post-viral conditions, some permanent & disabling. Everyone deserves access to vax that reduce risk. Marginalized folks esp need every shield they can get. Click thru & comment! Deadline in 3 days! It’s community care, disability justice, & resistance. #DoSomething

Sigh. Public comment is open, please weigh in! www.regulations.gov/commenton/FD...

You love to see it

The president of my university, who makes more than 10x what I do every year and whose choices were part of how we all got here and who's about to oversee massive staff layoffs, was caught on hot mic before a budget town hall meeting saying "I guess I shouldn't tell them we're fucked."

"Women are PIs on 58% of the canceled grants, although they are PIs on only 34% of all active NSF grants. Similarly, Blacks are PIs on 17% of the terminated grants, although they make only 4% of the total pool. Hispanic PIs and those with disabilities were twice as likely to lose a grant."

Many things are horrible, but my grad students have taken to sending photos of their pets to include in our slide decks, and now we stop a couple times each lecture so various students can tell the class about their pets, and honestly I’m pretty proud of that. Anyway here’s Mookie.

Part of the reason Trump’s eugenics have taken hold at the policy level in the US is that so many of us just don’t think disabled people deserve to live if their safety comes anywhere close to being in perceived conflict with our convenience. We all deserve better than that.

I love this so much

A reminder that in 1968 the newly formed Black Students Union at UW forced critical progress on the university through protests, a sit in, etc. Campuses belong to the students. Not to people like our UW president. depts.washington.edu/civilr/BSU_b...

A lot of people are misconstruing this and to put it bluntly a lot of these people are going to restaurants etc like normal and I'm saying we should refuse service and verbally mock them in public. They should be as afraid of going in public as boy band members at the height of their careers

Please, whoever made my grad students think that passive voice, saying "one" instead of "you" or "people," and writing "utilize" when they mean "use" are all ways to sound smarter in academic writing, I'm begging you to stop ruining my grading experience this weekend

every gender transition is a statement in favor of human possibility and freedom and i’m tired of hearing it talked about like it’s some kind of disease

Starting a conversation about the Black Panther Party, armed resistance to white supremacy, and the history of the Black Student Union at UW today. We've done a remarkable job at obscuring from our students how much power they actually have. Let's fix that. depts.washington.edu/civilr/BSU_b...

Let’s go.

"Awards that are not aligned with NSF's priorities have been terminated, including but not limited to those on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and misinformation/disinformation.” I'm moving from a DEI-heavy role to a health mis/disinfo role at the moment, so this is a wild ride

I’ll take any little bit of bad things happening to bad people these days

Indeed I’m fearful. We aren’t testing much any more. We’re firing everyone in govt who can help and stripping funding from academic & industry scientists who can fill the gaps. H5N1 is a real threat & US policy puts us all at risk. Me & colleagues Kay Russo, Kamran Khan, & Keith Poulsen discuss👇🏻

We're talking about the current attack on trans health research in my class on white supremacy culture tomorrow, and we'll start with the story of the destruction of Magnus Hirschfeld's library and clinic by the Nazis in 1933.

A new article that addresses the current situation with measles and vaccine hesitancy — worth and a read! Share it with your hesitant friends and family too for some non-jargony explanation of vaccine science

I know the world is a mess but nothing makes my blood pressure drop and my brain fizz in a quiet happy way like a day game. Baseball is so stupid and I love it so so much 💙

Science does not work like this. The only way you can set a timeline is if you have rigged the results in advance.

Watched this in my white supremacy culture class today and had a great conversation. The kids, they're alright 💙

The geese are back, and one lady of questionable judgement has laid four eggs on my office building's patio. Trying to figure out who knows how to re-home these lil babies and their mom safely before they hatch and waddle right off the 8th floor.
