The biggest reason why I dislike the idea of respectability in dress is because it conflates the *appearance* of virtue with *actual* virtue. Wearing a suit doesn't make you respectful, intelligent, or capable, just as wearing a leather jacket doesn't make you rugged.

Don, I was just thinking it would be terrific to gather a whole list of schools/teachers/principals to use for these forms -- Dr. West at Miskatonic is great, I favored Principal Togar at Vince Lombardi High, we haven't mentioned the substitute Spanish teacher at Brady Middle School in Arlen ...

I reread Heartburn a few years ago, for the first time in awhile, and was floored to realize the main character's husband's name was Mark Feldman. Ephron was telling us all, all the time. Damn. (I used to wonder why the name was changed for the film adaptation. Oh.)
