Every American should have clean drinking water, healthy food, and vaccines before any single American is allowed to have a megayacht (or insert whatever other example of disgusting excessive wealth here)
But what do I know, I'm a radical

20+ years of posting radical leftist takes on the internet is why 😂
Also ever since leaving Indiana, I've been lucky enough to live places where I have democratic socialist candidates I can vote for. I don't need to desperately primary my reps 😅

I dunno, I guess what I'm saying is that if I was Francis Collins or George Church or Svante Paabo I would have handcuffed myself to a sequencing machine in defiance and forced someone to drag me out or something 🤷🏻♂️

It's disgusting how much scientific leadership has failed the community by its silence and lack of real action
Meanwhile, great efforts like @standupforscience.bsky.social are grad student run
Always the powerless who are most willing to take risks...

This is what happens when academic culture rewards people who don't rock the boat in terms of activism or DEI or unionizing
You get a bunch of meek people who "just want to do their science"
And then Nazis come destroy their science with basically no resistance
Speak up and fight back NOW

Guess it's time for scientists to write some more strongly worded letters 🙄
We needed disruptive protesting 6 months ago
NIH employees should be staging sit-ins and getting arrested
Scientists should be running for office
We did one little protest and went back to tweeting sadly

The only reason I mentioned transitioning in my 30s was to send a message to trans kids:
It's so unfair for ignorant people to stop you from being yourself. I wish I had figured myself out so young
But it's never too late
Hang in there. We're fighting for you. We'll win
It'll be worth the wait 💖

The trans experience is being a literal expert in human genetics
Answering interview questions with that expertise
Then reading a final article that doesn't reference your credentials or knowledge at all
When I started T isn't newsworthy: Republicans lying about science to harm trans people is
