Byline Times is an excellent subscription to be made - support independent media in the UK that is without favour or fear!

This is why we need independent media outlets funded by the public. Our Byline Times story is still available to read despite attempts to suppress it.

hi bluesky, i do a very silly topical podcast with some brilliant comedians like @rosieisaholt.bsky.social @soozuk.bsky.social and @notmurphy.bsky.social where we cope with The Horrors of the news by mocking them, eg this takedown of allison pearson. it’s SO stupid and SO funny.

New in PN: AOC shows how to fight back and stand strong "Prominent figures standing up can undermine the climate of fear that MAGA relies on to impose terror. AOC’s work on behalf of her constituents and refusal to be intimidated are models of resistance other Democrats would do well to imitate."

"It's about trying to make white people feel victimised on the basis of their race in order to further the far-right's agenda. "What is that, if not a form of snowflakery?" Ash Sarkar tells Lewis Goodall about her new book, Minority Rule articles.globalplayer.com/7giHhfcW5Nfo...

This is also the logical conclusion of decades now of slow mainstreaming of far-right talking points Islamophobia, transphobia, anti-immigration discourses were never "legitimate grievances" that deserved to be aired. Their purpose was to prepare the way for this

📈Today, 21 February 2025, 153 out of the 516 Crown courtrooms in England & Wales will not be sitting. That's 30% of them. #courtstats #CS21022025 courtstats.co.uk

Brilliant, @alanbeattie.bsky.social taking on the cult of deregulation and also taking on the perceived wisdom that the UK is bound to gain from diverging from EU AI rules.

UK energy industry made £483bn profit since 2020. OFGEM's marginal pricing rules guarantee profits to the most inefficient/costly producer. 1 in 5 of all deaths are people in fuel poverty – including 110,000 pensioners. No curbs on profiteering. Real wages cut. WFP cut. Cost of living soaring.

GB News just sent out this email attacking #StopFundingHate supporters as "hate filled activists" after our community members asked Marks and Spencer to pull their advertising from this toxic channel. Let's keep up the pressure: www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/stop-gb-news

The problem with liberalism is that it sits around waiting for extremists to cut its throat. Musk is clearly using Twitter to undermine European democracies, so Europe should pull the plug on it. Who gives a shit if he wails about freedom of speech. Geo-block it in Europe and tell him to get fucked.

Stop these flights and stop arming Israel.

For Arsenal's piece this season, I wanted to study the development of Black Arsenal. The only place to start: by sitting down with Paul Davis and letting him be my guide. We did this: inews.co.uk/sport/footba...

I will never understand how this wasn’t the end for either of these deranged brats. Every milquetoast brownnoser who elevated or defended them hoping for a crumb from their unearned power should be ashamed. You knew. The evidence was right there. But you liked standing near the big boys.

Yesterday GB News aired this commentary belittling a black actress on the BBC as a "diversity hire". This is what Marks & Spencer have been aligning with. Take action: www.facebook.com/MarksandSpen...

Pathetic Villa.

Nice move from YES in Manchester this. Cheaper drinks while the support act are on. More of this please!

Labour under Attlee, with far greater economic challenges than today, had boldness, vision & a compelling story. Starmer’s Labour fails on all 3 counts, which amounts to laying out a welcome mat to Farage. On eve of publication of #AnotherEngland in paperback, I write for @prospectmagazine.co.uk👇

A strange kind of justice in seeing Boris Johnson end up in the role of a pregnant woman explaining to friends that a chap who hasn't called for three months has definitely promised to leave his wife.

M&S has been advertising on GB News, which has aired claims that the trans-inclusive Progress Pride flag is associated with a "misogynistic ideology that has proven to be a direct threat to human rights". Yet they say they're "celebrating the LGBTQ community": www.marksandspencer.com/c/pride

Don't let the pro-Israel far right define what antisemitism is. A brilliant tour de force from @rachelshabi.bsky.social, who is - as ever - full of insight, humanity and moral clarity. New interview! 👇 www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5e_...

Trump is a cunt.

Time to stop calling it a negotiation. This is two autocrats, looking to leverage as much as they can from a sovereign country, lying about Ukraine, posturing without Ukraine. Europe has to step up fast. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

Here's the executive order just signed by Trump. One of the defining features of fascism is that the discretionary power of the leader always prevails over the rule of law.

Fascists rewrite history. Trump says Ukraine 'should have never started it' in comments about war with Russia. Claims it could have “made a deal” to avert war i e. handed over territory. Ukraine's biggest mistake was to give up nuclear weapons in 1994. US, UK, Russia guaranteed its security.

Dismayed to see @rcphysicians.bsky.social only today - literally years after doctors started raising concerns - finally issue an "urgent" call to the govt to address its deliberate suppression of resident doctor training places. This is not what good leadership looks like (1/3)

This is why you fight these cowards. The moment you stand up to them, they crumble. Homan has nothing. The Fourth Amendment is clear and I am well within my duties to educate people of their rights. He can threaten me with jail and call names all he wants. He’s got nothing else.

If Thames Water was any normal company it would have gone bust. Instead, it's been bailed out. We'll fight this decision. Water is an essential part of life. Which is exactly why it should be in public ownership. Agree? Sign our petition weownit.org.uk/act-now/brin...

The Times spoke to people being trapped inside a Panama hotel after deportation from the US and the individual stories of horror are almost too much to bear www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/w...

Why this is ultimately unsurprising is because our understanding of journalism, its function, its role, is distorted. Journalism cannot speak truth to power when it is part of the structure of that power. This is not something journalism likes to admit. But it is often the case. It's about power.

HMRC ditches crackdown on private equity tax. Who will bear the cost of appeasing private equity? Govts listen to donors, finance industry, developers and the rich. The rest get two child benefit cap, winter fuel payment, frozen personal allowance, cuts in public services. archive.ph/BjU9b

"We also want to strip out the duplication & the inefficiencies that exist in the railways at the moment with 14 different train operating companies..." Now apply that to the internal market in the NHS. Or the private water industry.

Transport minister: "... we leak money to the private sector train operating companies. By bringing those companies in house we will be saving up to £150m a year" So why aren't you doing the same with the private Rolling Stock companies. They extract hundreds of millions from the railway each year

UK Supreme Court judges reject Reeves’ motor finance intervention. Banks face a possible £44bn compensation bill for mis-selling car loans. Govt sought to scupper it, claiming that this would disrupt markets and its growth strategy. Misguided intervention.

I was asked by @womensprize.bsky.social if one thing stood out, above all, from writing The Story of a Heart. I think, in these darkest of times, my answer may be worth holding onto. #OrganDonation 🫀🫁💗

Cut red tape, they said. Frictionless trade, they said. Exact same benefits, they said. Reality: delays & obscene price rises for consumers due to additional Brexit border checks. Brexit is a failure & we are all paying for the madness. www.fpcfreshtalkdaily.co.uk/post/jenney-...

Starmer ready to put UK troops in Ukraine if peace deal reached. Must be approved by parliament. Cost? Duration? What role - prevent Russian expansion, prevent Ukraine from recovering territory, or carry out Trump's orders? Why is this not a UN task? What is the exit strategy? archive.ph/bNlua

The following promises were made to voters in July: 🦷700k urgent dental appointments 📑Fundamental reform of the failed contract fuelling the crisis in NHS dentistry. 🪥Rollout of supervised brushing in schools. Decent policies. But we are still no closer to delivery.

Putin was allowed to carpet bomb Chechnya and Syria without consequences, for years. He was given a World Cup and a Winter Olympics while he levelled schools and hospitals. Now he’s firing cruise missiles into flats in Ukraine. This is where greed and apathy gets the West. This was all so avoidable.
