Universities show their true colors during crises so I'm proud to read that my US employer, Yale School of Medicine, is funding faculty whose labs have been hit by political meddling In addition to bridge funding I gather Yale lawyers are directly challenging anti-science actions in Washington

Join us in supporting NIH and NSF in local papers across the country!

I have decided that encoding movie formats was a mistake. A series of jpgs and an audio file, that's all it should ever have been. (Yes, I have been wrestling with Python libraries for movie playback, why do you ask)

Good start. Keep going.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but a private officer of the executive branch taking over the system that disburses money according to the laws that congress has passed is the textbook definition of a constitutional crisis, yes? And yet I have not seen the term used even once today.

Hi. Jewish person here. These are concentration camps and should be called that by everyone.

Academic workers across the country are organizing to call on our congressional representatives on Thursday, 1/30, at 3pm ET / 12pm PT to demand these restrictions be lifted immediately. There will be a training over zoom at the beginning of the event. Join us! form.jotform.com/250226137228...

Just reflecting that one of the reasons my immigration to Austria came with very generous perks is that they are still undoing the fascism-generated brain drain that turned a country that was basically a Nobel prize factory into a wasteland for science.

Does anyone know if there are conversations about organizing scientists through our societies (e.g., Cog Dev, SRCD, or cog sci?). To put pressure on our politicians about NIH/NSF? I can't find it, but saw someone who used to work in the capitol blue-skied this could be an effective strategy.

Does the culture you grow up in shape the way you see the world? In a new Psych Review paper, @chazfirestone.bsky.social & I tackle this centuries-old question using the Müller-Lyer illusion as a case study. Come think through one of history's mysteries with us🧵(1/13):

Attn #CogSci #PsychSci colleagues: What textbook would you recommend for an introduction to cognitive science course for students who will not have taken any related intro courses (psychology, linguistics, compsci) beforehand?

Canceled my WaPo subscription after the non-endorsement, because it was clear that the oligarch in charge would use the paper as a platform for the regime. Set up a monthly donation to Wikipedia instead.

I checked myself to be sure, and yes, this is real. The ADL has been questionable for a while, but this is explicitly selling out the safety of American Jews just to preserve some kind of political relevance. They are vichy mamzers who don't deserve the slightest bit of legitimacy or respect.

Interested in a Ph.D. in #CogSci (or know a student who is)? The Cognitive Science department at CEU is accepting applications to our Ph.D. program until Feb. 4. You can hear more about it in our new department video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTAt... Application: cognitivescience.ceu.edu/admission

Kari Kretch, John Franchak, and their son lost everything in one of the fires in So Cal. If you can, please consider supporting them by donating or sharing the link. Every bit of support makes a difference for their rebuilding. gofund.me/4ac26174

Non-passionate minds also welcome at this point, mind you. But seriously - reviewing CogSci papers is a great way to quickly learn about a bunch of new work and provide constructive feedback that helps folks refine their work!

I have 214.6K followers, and I figure at least some of them are looking to gift books this holiday season, so: HEY AUTHORS OF BLUESKY: In the comments to this post, tell us (briefly!) about your most recent book, and put in a link to where people can learn more and/or buy the book in question. Go!

OMG, y'all. CEU Econ + Cognitive Science super team wins massive @fwf-at.bsky.social grant. Why do coherent belief systems sometimes tolerate incoherence? www.ceu.edu/article/2024... @weareceu.bsky.social @matskoester.bsky.social This is one of just 3 mega-grants. www.fwf.ac.at/aktuelles/de...

I have got to say, @openmindjournal.bsky.social has the most user-friendly article submission system I have ever dealt with. Clear instructions, simple and straightforward interface. Took me all of 15 minutes, when I usually block an hour of my schedule to wrestle editorial manager to the ground.

The whole thread is good but i wanted to highlight this point. I think this may be an unavoidable problem at some level, but it's a problem worth considering.

Three ManyBabies projects - big collaborative replications of infancy phenomena - wrapped up this year. The first paper came out this fall. I thought I'd take this chance to comment on what I make of the non-replication result. 🧵 bsky.app/profile/laur...

I did not expect making the bed to be the most challenging thing I did this week but here we are.

Scientists, academics, researchers: We’re excited to share that @altmetric.com is now tracking mentions of your research on Bluesky! 🧪

For anyone using @psychopy.bsky.social and #pavlovia, I created a proof-of-concept demo for using the "shelf" system to do synchronous multiplayer experiments: discourse.psychopy.org/t/online-mul...

The journals Perception and i-Perception are now on Bluesky! We’ll post here updates about articles published in the journals, calls for special issues, and any other exciting news related to perception research.

Glad to see this out in print! I've been involved from the early stages because I built a custom version of PyHab for it. There are a lot of complex challenges doing these kinds of multi-lab studies, but it was a great experience and something I'd be happy to be involved with again in the future
