Has anyone figured out the optics goal of letting Kilmar Abrego Garcia meet in street clothes in a restaurant? He looked about as far from the stereotype Trump’s goons are trying to sell and I’m just trying to figure out what Bukele was trying to achieve there, given his trolling afterwards.

Defense Department civilian employees and contractors abroad can no longer get rape test kits done at military medical facilities, according to recently issued guidance from the Military Health System.

Goldman: "Think about whether any of us want to vote a certain way but bc we fear for our personal safety, we decide to vote differently. We are no longer representing our constituents. We are representing something else more like the bully threatening us. That is more like Vladimir Putin operates"

Looking forward to the Trump DOJ trying to explain to Judge Xinis how the United States remains totally powerless to do anything about Abrego Garcia’s continuing detention at the CECOT.

INCREDIBLE opinion by Wilkinson refusing to stay Judge Xinis's orders in the Abrego Garcia case, condemning DOJ's arguments as "shocking not only to judges, but to the intuitive sense of liberty that Americans far removed from courthouses still hold dear." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

So good to see that Kilmar is alive. Let's bring him and the others home.

Now if the WH press corp had balls they'd ask in the briefing tomorrow: How does the president feel about Bukele letting someone you call a dangerous "terrorist" so freely leave the prison and have drinks in a hotel?

I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.

In these dark times, it is necessary to be part of the contagion of courage. I gave this speech on the UC-Berkeley campus today in protest of the Trump regime’s attacks on higher education and the foundational principles of America. https://youtu.be/ge5wsaTpuz8?si=szfG-gFoMnrX6pN0

🧵 THREAD: A federal whistleblower just dropped one of the most disturbing cybersecurity disclosures I’ve ever read. He's saying DOGE came in, data went out, and Russians started attempting logins with new valid DOGE passwords Media's coverage wasn't detailed enough so I dug into his testimony:

this is such good news. i think it is also an opportunity for democrats to state forthrightly that when they win power again everyone responsible for this crime will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law and will face the american people to answer for their lawlessness

Could someone please explain Bukele's goals for me? Is this a play to influence opinion in the U.S.? Is he just a hyperonline weirdo responding to what he's seeing on Twitter?

this whole administration is like when they shut off the containment unit in ‘ghostbusters’

Holy fucking shit Bill Kristol is substantially to the left of the entire Senate Democratic Caucus

We’re going to need some good-hearted people with iron resolve to deal harshly with the Trump crime family if we ever want to find a way out of this nightmare.

Roger Parloff on the "evidence" that Abrego Garcia is a gang member: "It's double hearsay stemming from a document written by somebody indicted for misconduct."

@audiecornish.bsky.social: Our whole portrait of him as described by the White House is informed by somebody who was indicted for misconduct? @rparloff.bsky.social:Yeah. It's double hearsay stemming from a document written by somebody indicted for misconduct.

I'd do a longer post, but here's my big problem with the Wurman paper: What is it? My fundamental questions are: what's the question? what are the methods? why little engagement with prior scholarship? is there any new evidence? why frame a paper around 2% of evidence to make it look like much more?

It’s important to remember that this all started with Wurman criticizing a judge who restrained Trump’s EO for ignoring a “whole literature” debating birthright citizenship. After people rightly noted there wasn’t any literature like that, Wurman and his copartisan academics tried to backfill one.

Jon Stewart has a message for his Bluesky critics: 'My bad'

Jon Stewart admits folks here were right & he wasn't: "I did not think he would get this authoritarian this fast. I really didn't. I'm sorry. Who could have known? Maybe if someone out there had yelled at me on Bluesky about this, I would have known. But no one did. Except every day. In all caps."

@armytimes.bsky.social

"I can't attest to what their end goal was or what they're doing with the data. But I can tell you that the bits of the puzzle that I can quantify are scary. ... This is a very bad picture we're looking at." www.npr.org/2025/04/15/n...

i'm watching a group of conservative law professors insist that there is a grand debate over birthright citizenship that somehow escaped generations of scholarship and only popped into existence after a right-wing president announced an effort to nullify the 14th amendment.

I'm glad to see major outlets discover that Trump 2.0 will completely decimate environmental protections, public safety, corporate oversight, and consumer protection this kind of thing might have proven useful pre-election

A week before the election they dedicated front page space to a totally invented "scandal" where Joe Biden criticized racist trump supporters mocking Puerto Ricans as "garbage." That's the narrative the Times thought mattered

What’s funny about this Carville op-ed is that he was on CNN yesterday and was shaken by Trump ignoring SCOTUS. He was asked about whether Dems should only focus on the economy still and he said something like some issues are so important you shouldn’t just focus on the best political messaging

I will say this - EVERYONE with power seems to be desperately hoping that unpopularity does the work that consequences need to do

He’s running and I’ll vote for him

there’s no reason not to do this. it’d probably end up with another kind of constitutional crisis, which is exactly why it should happen.

in many ways I think AOC is more valuable serving as a constant presence in congress for decades rather than being stymied by that same congress in a presidential term or two but man, she’s the Dems’ most talented national politician right now and it’s not particularly close

Schumer: "If he defies the Supreme Court, then we are in uncharted territory ... our entire democracy is at risk. I believe that if Donald Trump should defy the courts, the public will rise up. Democrats will fight it in every single way ... autocrats only succeed if the public lets them."

Holy shit man, *you* aren’t even “rising up,” you are not the guy to be urging the public to push you to do your own fucking job Get on the march or get out of the way @schumer.senate.gov

Holy crap. The DOJ is arguing that the President can unilaterally deport anyone he wants without ANY statutory authority, just on his inherent authority as President over national security. That is a terrifying claim to make and not one that has ever been recognized before in US history.

As American chaos heightens with each passing moment, do you wonder what you’d do if you had to quickly flee? I don’t think it’s hyperbolic to be prepared for what we assumed was unthinkable…what now seems inevitable. This democracy is dying. Trump’s invocation of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act should…

No funds for the government until the criminal agency causing pensioners to lose their Social Security is shuttered just might have been a winnable fight. www.wkrn.com/news/nationa...

the man is constitutionally incapable of not being an asshole for even a single day

"Say no taxes again! Say no taxes again! I dare you! I doubledare you, motherfucker! Say no taxes one more goddamn time!"

👇🎯 time to change that

This is fucking awful.

As always, remember when reading these sorts of articles that this is explicitly what the @nytimes.com wanted when it worked hard to get Trump elected

!! The Alien Enemies Act declaration is now out. Trump declares that the Venezuelan street gang "Tren de Aragua" is actually a "hybrid criminal state" akin to a foreign government and that authorizes rapid deportation with no due process to any accused member of the gang.
