Reminder that the @nytimes.com is at least 50% garbage

It has its downsides but in general creates outcomes closer to the aggregate sentiment than 1PP voting. And it lifts the likelihood of smaller voices gaining a seat at the table, especially when the major players wander too far off piste.

Yeah it was really for others who happen by this thread later. I am happy that Australia has already long been benefiting from this voting option.

Yeah it has a few names. RCV, the alternative vote, preferential voting. CGP Grey has a fantastic primer on it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y3j...

I vehemently disagree and say that it's in fact MORE democratic. Ranked choice voting will allow for candidates who better reflect the voters to have a fighting chance in elections, rather than people picking an "establishment" politician as a safety pick.

Another positive about ranked choice voting is that it tends to let multiple parties flourish rather than the tired and polarizing two-party system we've been strangled by for so long. Annie's article ignores this and it seems her argument is "this isn't democratic".

Isn't it BETTER than more candidates stay in the election longer, cross-endorse and encourage more activity, involvement, and discussion in the process? Her argument seems to be no, this is bad. This makes zero sense.

Maybe this is oversimplifying her argument but it sounds like "I want my guy to win, or fuck it, the other party can win and burn everything".

yeah it does away with the "spoiler" result. I love RCV, and think it should be everywhere.

They're great, but yeah I prefer the Rask. It's the most amazing knife. The fjell is so easy to carry though, it's quickly becoming a fave.

not too far off. It's a great knife.
