Just accidentally caught 30s of the SOTU in which Trump paraded a mother of a trans kid as some sort of victim of anything other than her own cruel child-hating bigotry. May these monsters never know peace and sincerely, fu** anyone who goes after trans kids or normalizes any of this cruelty

Watching PP’s comments now. Sincerely, I don’t think the “Blame Liberals” smarmy-ass campaign speech he’s delivering in response to Trump’s tariffs right now is going to work for him. It’s gross. So gross. It’ll backfire on him. GOOD.

PP’s greasy muted talking head in a tiny box next to Doug Ford’s live presser bc Pierre wouldn’t wait for Doug to finish before launching into his own is 🤌

Fun fact: 25y ago I was one of Ontario’s policy negotiators for the Agreement on Internal Trade. Ontario had no interest in reopening the AIT. Ditto Quebec & Alberta.. All for their own reasons. This new landscape changes everything: would love to be a fly on the wall of the AIT meetings these days😳

Free Ukraine AND Free Palestine Being on the side of liberation in one, while supporting military occupation, war crimes & brutal oppression of civilian populations in the other, is inconsistent & hypocritical. And if you only care about geopolitics, don't pretend your position is a moral one.

I cannot stress enough, how fucking deranged this entire exchange is. I am hard to surprise, but this is... simply unbelievable. Trump and Vance are bullies and thugs and they lack basic humanity. The worst people are literally in charge right now. This is very very bad.

Remember that time President Obama wore a tan suit?

Why in the ever loving fu** is Kevin O’Leary, a career imbecile who also happens to be a Canadian with zero policy experience or knowledge, on CNN “debating” DOGE’s “restructuring” of the American federal govt?

In other news... a concept art teaser for my main sabbatical project. Contract is signed & the book is in the process of becoming. EEEK! "Always Never Home: Stories from the in-between" by Jennifer Mustapha, for the Creative Interventions in Global Politics series (Rowman&Littlefield Bloomsbury) 📚

This UNGA vote tally for "Advancing a comprehensive, just & lasting peace in Ukraine" will be studied for decades as a terrifying inflexion point for multilateral governance & liberal international order. The US, Russia, Israel, Belarus, Hungary, NK vote together against peace in Ukraine.

How is the NYT so sure the video is fake? I am not saying it's not fake but you know, I am just asking questions.

Even better… “in ONLY our command”? I am a diehard Chantal fan but man that was not it. Anyways, alls well that ends well??

Legit question… wouldn’t “that only we command” have worked better? The chosen phrasing makes me itch

Absolutely bananas experience at YYZ yest. Yes there was a storm but an ENTIRE plane-full of Air France luggage never made it onto a baggage carousel. Air tags show they are still sitting on the tarmac. Reports have been made but I don't trust the process. Why is Pearson the absolute worst?

The USA did not suddenly become disliked because of Trump. What Trump did was turn on allies in the global north, which finally burst the bubble for all. The global south has been all too aware for decades.

US aid freeze claims first victims as oxygen supplies cut off Seventy-one-year-old woman dies after being sent home from USAID funded hospital. Others die after hospitals close in refugee camps www.telegraph.co.uk/global-healt...

I agree with @wgreaves.bsky.social on this. The concern that this would be escalatory is valid, but this administration presumes consent unless you push back. Bluntly put, you pepper spray the guy trying to "grab you by the p*****y." You don't smile politely at him. www.ctvnews.ca/politics/art...

Of course I’m biased. In that I prefer not to normalize state violence. So no, I will not Both Sides clear genocidal violations against international law. I will explain what arguments are made by the wrong side, & I’ll also explain why they’re wrong: this isn’t BIAS it’s just called Knowing Stuff.

This is bananas & also entirely unsurprising given what we have seen from Trump's America so far: the so-called "indispensable nation" actively attempting to destroy the international order, in real time. The rest of the world needs to stop this from happening by insisting on upholding int'l law.

Perhaps as fucked up as Trump’s deranged & illegal threat to “take ownership” of Gaza and “remove Palestinians from there” is the media’s reporting of it as a “proposal” and giving it airtime like he has suggested something other than illegal military annexation and genocidal ethnic cleansing.

it’s funny that suddenly Canadians understand the importance of boycotts and divestment

Asking Canada to submit to annexation is the conduct of a hostile foreign power:

I don’t relish the fact that the current timeline is speed-running the central theses of work we do in critical security studies. It’s no exaggeration to say we actually hoped to be wrong. But Trump turning Guantanamo into a migrant concentration camp is the kind of BINGO no one wanted.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent. Opportunities are everywhere. Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

This is just so bad in so many ways www.bbc.com/news/article...

Welp…so a couple weeks after this happened to @nkalamb.bsky.social my NEXUS was just revoked by DHS. It’s not a coincidence. Sorry American friends and colleagues, looks like I won’t be at events in the US any time soon.

This is some clown shit. You’re running to be PM bro. Not a social media influencer. www.thestar.com/politics/fed...

Folks, we need to talk abt what it means to attend #ISA2025 this year. My surprise Achilles rupture aside, the US blocking visas on the basis of support for Palestine gives me pause abt the safety or legitimacy of an *international studies* conference in the US right now. I am deeply discomfited.

Humanity still hasn't figured out that ethno-nationalist state projects are bad news. Especially since they almost always require the displacement, subjugation or extermination of indigenous & minority populations. Critiques of such states- or ANY state- should always be fair game. Necessary, even.
