As usual, @crampell.bsky.social is spot-on here. It's been hard teaching a course on Congress this semester when any reasonable observer of American politics could be forgiven for forgetting they exist. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

Here McCardle offers us the same "Look what you made me do!" argument that you hear from abusive partners. While she is careful to note "what they are doing is wrong," she nonetheless serves up a heaping helping of victim blaming. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

I am sure I am not the first to see this, but if you go to Google Maps right now (7am CT) and search for "Kremlin Headquarters," this is what comes up. 🤣

This is how it's done.

We may never have another free and fair election in my lifetime, but over on Facebook there are people still crying "tryanny" about life-saving vaccines & the fact that scientists told them to stay 6' apart when 3' would have been enough.

Fetishizing the sound of chaining up human beings is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen in an official WH communication. But I fully expect it will be surpassed before long. There is no bottom for this administration.

WTAF.

Of all the Greek myths, Cassandra may be the most relevant these days. About half the country is warning the other half of terrible things about to happen, the terrible things always come true, & yet the people we're telling never believe us. wapo.st/3XarRku

Even in the face of outrages like this, there are still people claiming that any criticism is evidence of "TDS." If I have TDS it is only in the same sense that Winston Churchill had "HDS." It's not "derangement" to hate fascists or to call madmen insane. wapo.st/3CXKukK

Other nations are so much more eloquent in characterizing Trump's utterances: “[A]fter Trump’s verbal diarrhea, by tomorrow, Zelensky’s approval rating will be back above 90 percent — just like it was on February 24, three years ago.” wapo.st/41lvOoQ

RFK removing vaccine info from the CDC website . . . .

I know am preaching to the choir here, but this guy is scum. He reinforces my initial impression of South Africans I developed from Lethal Weapon 2. Where's Danny Glover when you need him? wapo.st/42Z9d2F

I miss the days when plausible deniability was something that administration officials worried about. These justifications from DOJ are laughably, transparently bogus. wapo.st/4b4XAZX

I am hoping the counterpoint to this is "He who harms his country goes to prison."

The fact that Musk and his cronies can't distinguish between different companies that share the same name shouldn't be surprising -- i.e., remember that press conference at Four Seasons Total Landscaping? Attention to detail is not a strength of these fascists. wapo.st/4gJwGID

Teaching American government right now is analogous to a real estate agent giving a tour of a burning house.

If the American people say they want public officials who "tell it like it is," then Democrats should comply.

Comparing him to Neville Chamberlain is is overly kind. Chamberlain naively thought he was advancing the cause of peace. Hegseth may be laying the groundwork for the US to "annex" the Panama Canal or Greenland. wapo.st/4gBZFhk

I hate to be an alarmist, but when you are careening downhill at breakneck speed towards the end of democracy, it's not unreasonable to be alarmed. wapo.st/41asHAj

White male assholery isn't as pervasive if you exclude Republicans . . . .

It will be interesting to see how the 2030 apportionment cycle plays out with Trump's aggressive anti-immigrant policies. At least in MN, the ironic effect may be to diminish conservative representation in the House -- ie, when MN loses a House seat in 2030, it won't be a liberal urban one.

It’s just bleak that there’s a considerable amount of people who are like “thank goodness the worlds richest human being is stopping the tyranny of the consumer financial protection bureau and that guy who collects atmospheric data”

hey quick question does Goliath win in that story

I said it over and over during his first term and it bears repeating: How on earth does a person listen to this and proudly say "Yeah! That's my guy!" It's mortifying.

WTAF? If I understand this correctly, a lot of my friends and colleagues are about to lose their livelihoods? Every day of this administration is worse than the one before. wapo.st/4gfgcHQ

1. Only Reagan fired all IGs — caused big firestorm, no POTUS has repeated it. 2. After 2008 enactment of congressional notice provision, only two non-Trump IG firings: one each by Obama and Biden. 3. Trump had hired many of the IGs he just fired! crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/...

A reminder that illegal border crossings have been plummeting. In December 2024 they were lower than they were when Trump left office last time. This is largely b/c about a year ago, Mexico devoted more resources to halting migrants before they reached the US border (turns out, diplomacy matters!)

In the immortal words of George McClellan, "What a specimen to have at the head of our affairs." wapo.st/3WzJb2a

This is marvelous: 'One CBS article about his immigration crackdown said Trump “invoked muscular presidential powers,” which is a bit like saying Jeffrey Dahmer, “displayed omnivorous taste.”' open.substack.com/pub/contrari...

That moment when you realize your sham investigations might only uncover more malfeasance by your own party. Sunshine may be the best disinfectant, but I fear our little mid-sized star doesn't produce enough light to keep up with this bacterial strain. wapo.st/4hKX6L1

Well, that's refreshing -- accountability is not something you expect from the J6 bunch. Good for her. wapo.st/3EguEBT

It's astonishing the number of times @crampell.bsky.social has to remind us -- justifiably -- that she is "not making this up." I don't know how I will make it through 4 more years of this. I am already so, so tired -- and it is only Day Two. wapo.st/4g7eKY4

As one of those JCPS students, I can confirm this is true in my case. And, anecdotally, I can't think of a single kid I went to school with who was mad about busing (we LOVED the long bus ride to Whitney Young Elementary!). It was the parents who lost their minds about it.

Next time you see a sign saying "Back the Blue" or "We Support Law Enforcement" in the same yard as a Trump flag, remember this:

Calling this "Ending the Weaponization of the Federal Government" is like North Korea calling itself a "Democratic Republic." Saying it don't make it so, especially when the substance of it is, literally, exactly what it claims to be ending. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...
