An addled president is shredding the Constitution to usher in white nationalism and fascism while destroying the economy and our health care, so if you’re going to write an alarmist op-ed because a mayoral candidate might open five (5) city-run grocery stores, you can kindly get bent.

It’s a huge failure of the education system and the media that so many Americans think that rural areas subsidize urban ones and not the other way around.

This is what the Paper of Record™ chose to publish for the 10th anniversary of Obergefell archive.ph/AqDLU

Andrew Sullivan got gay married in Massachusetts in 2007, before it was legal anywhere else in the US. "I got mine! Why does anyone else want rights?!?!"

Voters: can you pay 50 cents more in taxes to pay for vegetables for children and agree not to defraud the elderly on their electrical bills Wall Street Guy: OH LIKE THE KILLING FIELDS?!?! LIKE THE KHMER ROUGE?!?!

I am absolutely pissing myself laughing

Today's newsletter is about how @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social shows that you can run on "kitchen table issues" without throwing vulnerable people to the wolves — and win! www.readtpa.com/p/want-to-kn...

If one woman accuses a man they’ll say she’s lying, because she’s only one person. If more than a dozen women accuse a man they’ll say they’re all lying, it must be a coordinated campaign

A party that actually wanted to mobilize young and disillusioned voters would be studying Zohran Mamdani’s campaign like the Bible

you can't draw a lot of conclusions from a single race. there are external factors, flawed candidates, the right political climate. but one conclusion you can absolutely draw is that all of the people who tell you that there's only one way things can be are fucking wrong

what’s funny is that if pro-cuomo centrist democrats were less myopic they might see that mamdani was running the kind of campaign that could help rebuild the party brand — accessible with an outsider persona and a focus on “kitchen table” issues.

What matters is that Cuomo and all the people who endorsed him are still going to claim they're the rightful heirs to the Democratic Party, how dare young people challenge them, all of that. The difference is they're now just unaffiliated lunatics, banging on the windows. They're not the party.

Turns out there was a more exciting message than better things aren’t possible

I like how every single day the people endorsing him get worse. Like a week ago it would be someone like Joe Manchin and now it’s LibsofTiktok, on Election Day it will probably be that Dung Eater guy from Elden Ring

This is incredibly beautiful storytelling.

the political lesson everyone should take from Iraq is that you will regret being in favor of this sooner or later and the earlier you were against it the better off you’ll be ignore the media frenzy and stake your position now, it’s the right thing to do and it’s the ambitious thing to do too

The concept of sexual harassment has endorsed Andrew Cuomo for Mayor.

We were very happy to give this scoop to @marisakabas.bsky.social's The Handbasket because it is important to support independent journalists who are doing the hard work at this time. Giving this story to Marisa also guarantees it will be in The Washington Post verbatim exactly 48 hours later.

Something I am thinking about right now is that a 3 million dollar program that allows abused women to take their pets with them to domestic violence shelters is about to be cut because “we don’t have the money” but the government is about to spend 1000000000x more than that to bomb people

if you’re doomscrolling, stop and turn on the Venice Beach livecam. hundreds of strangers peacefully coexisting, skating, playing with dogs, kids playing soccer, every race and gender and age just milling around together before sunset. It’s helping me. m.youtube.com/watch?v=3LXQ...

I truly believe we will look back at this attitude as *the* sickness of our political era. It is an extremely basic fact, and has been for decades, that the vast majority of political violence in the US is committed by the right! You cannot solve a problem if you refuse to identify it.

Our current Director of National Intelligence:

Hours after @pbump.com posted this today, ICE updated its figure to 500%.

crazy elon out here paying payday loan type interest rates to keep the cash coming in, sounds like things are going great

I hope the people who love AI and find it really convenient for work also love living on a planet that is no longer habitable for human society at its current scale

There are no distractions. It's all bad. Systematically stripping trans people of their rights, guys in balaclavas shoving any brown person with a tattoo into a ummarked vans, ending healthcare for millions. It's all in service of fascism and technofeudalism. It's all one thing. That's the point.

I suspect that fact that the vast majority of LLM users don’t seem to have received this (really very simple!) message is because the AI companies have a vested interest in us not understanding it. “ChatGPT is smart, it just makes mistakes sometimes” is much more marketable than the truth.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

One to watch closely 👀 On 4/15 Rep. Michael McCaul bought $100K of MSA Safety Notable for 3 reasons: 1. MSA won a $33M Coast Guard contract for SCBA assemblies in 2024 2. McCaul sits on the Homeland Security Committee 3. It's the first time he's ever bought the stock $MSA is +15% since his buy

“ICE agents have to wear masks and no uniform because they have become so deeply unpopular that it’s safer to appear to be a vigilante kidnapper” is a hell of an argument

i just find this so bizarre. searching through texts and doing the reading for myself is how i actually think through ideas! trying to put together a sentence is how i figure out what i actually want to say!

Having a bit of a hard time with the concept that if a guy in a police uniform who has a police vehicle shows up I should lock the doors and call 911, but if a guy in a ski mask with an hGH gut appears to be kidnapping my neighbor, I shouldn’t ask who he is if I don’t want federal charges.

So many people will say on record that they like candidates like Trump and Cuomo BECAUSE they’re bullies. And this belief stems from people seeing over the course of their lives that bullies get what they want and don’t get held accountable, so having a bully as a leader must be desirable

seen some people complaining that this is a political stunt and lemme say if this was the kind of political stunt more politicians were doing on a regular basis we wouldn't be where we are today dude is actually putting himself on the line here, fuck off with that shit

People who don’t like AI aren’t in denial about how useful it is. People who like AI are in denial about how useful it is

I wrote about Democrats' obsession with calling Trump's actions a "distraction," and how it reflects their failure to understand the modern media ecosystem.

The Times saying last year they'd no longer endorse candidates in local elections, then immediately being like "oh but not THAT guy" 10 months later because the candidate wants free buses gives away the whole game. "Objectivity" means you break your own rules to punch left as much as you want.
