Best article I've read in ages! More like this plz @nanaimonewsnow.bsky.social πŸ˜„πŸ˜œ #nanaimonewsMEOW

Join us on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 12-2 pm in the VIU Quad as we come together to grieve, remember, and honour those we have lost to the Toxic Drug Crisis. πŸ’œπŸ•―οΈ

For the Nanaimo folks. This is sure to be an interesting conversation! @momsstoptheharm.bsky.social @docs4saferdrugs.bsky.social @hrna.bsky.social

I'm learning so much from this lovely team of folks up in Campbell River. The north Island badly needs more support, yet their city is actively working against them. The City of CR is ok with anti-abortion protests, but shows with force when people are trying to keep their grown children alive. 🫠

We legit just want you all to know how to respond to save a life. Come for the free food, stay for the interesting content πŸ’œ

Sorry, I can't go. I'm busy: #incatpacitated #catsky

Shame on you @josieosborne.bsky.social for pretending you gave a crap and then turning around and doing this. I hope this new job is everything you hoped it would be. What a legacy you are building for yourself πŸ˜’ @davidebybc.bsky.social @bcndpcaucus.bsky.social

This interview hits important points: Witnessed consumption will make safer supply inaccessible in rural communities. Indigenous populations will be disproportionately harmed. No experts were consulted. This is reactionary politics. Keep politics out of medicine. @josieosborne.bsky.social

The end of take-home safe supply programs in BC is devastating news. Witnessed options aren’t possible in almost every jurisdiction. This will result in deprescribing, forced tapering and sadly in deaths. Cowardly politicians caving to misinformation. #BCpoli #DrugSky www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

How do these people sleep at night? I would rather the streets be flooded with clean, diverted drugs than have an entire population of already vulnerable people further fucked over. Fucking shameful. #drugsky

Vancouver Island's @docs4saferdrugs.bsky.social will be back outside Royal Jubilee Hospital today and tomorrow with pop-up overdose prevention sites. They will be joined by former BC Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe, and have support letters from multiple groups eg BC Family Doctors and BC Nurses Union.

There’s an anti-fascist march happening in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada! πŸ“† Saturday, March 1 πŸ“ Meet at City Hall on Wallace Street, then march to the Swy-a-Lana Pavilion πŸ• Gather at 1 PM, march at 1:30 PM πŸͺ§ Bring signs if you like πŸ“’ Spread the word by sharing this thread VIVE LE CANADA 🍁

The evidence is clear: forced abstinence kills people. breachmedia.ca/media-politi...

I was reminded tonight that ABA still exists, And I still can't believe the argument for ABA is either 1) Traumatize the autistic person so they deal with scary society "easier" 2) Make them as "independent" as possible so they can navigate society You know what reduces functioning? Trauma & PTSD

This is exactly the book we need right now. It reminds us that in a capitalist society, taking time to rest is an act of resistance & liberation. Being continually exhausted/unwell/overwhelmed makes is easier to manipulate. Rest is an act of community care. #booksky @smilesavenue.bsky.social πŸ’œ

Keeping an eye on this one πŸ‘€

"Communication pages like this are not just for people who absolutely can’t ever speak. They are for anyone, anywhere, who for whatever reason would be unable to say things like this in situations where they need to be able to say it." Communication skills can fluctuate. #actuallyautistic

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

A friendly reminder: #screamingisselfcare #selfcare #treatyoself

We need more mainstream info about autistic joy & thriving looks like, rather than only focusing on the tougher parts. To do this, try to learn from advocates focused on the neurodiversity paradigm rather than professionals trained in the pathology paradigm. #actuallyautistic

Earlier this week we sent a letter to Island Health in response to their treatment of Dr. Wilder following her harm reduction advocacy work. If our health authority is more willing to take action based on politics than academic research then we are all in trouble. Our community deserves better. 🧡

Why force involuntary care when we don’t have enough beds for voluntary care? Please sign the refusal campaign if you work in health care: s56.ca #InvoluntaryCare #ForcedCare #DrugPolicy 3 minutes of your time please. Watch, share and sign. youtu.be/j18fLv8HWgQ?...

So interesting! This could be a much kinder option in a lot of scenarios.

Today, our gentle reminder that there isn't an 'astonishing' rise in autistic people. We've always been here. Most of us weren't counted in the figures, before, because they were looking for the young white boys who collect trains. They got better at finding us. Thanks for reading.

Thanks @micksweetman.bsky.social for including comments from community orgs in here. One of the BEST parts of this project has been the network of groups showing up to support each other πŸ’œ @docs4saferdrugs.bsky.social @momsstoptheharm.bsky.social @power1312.bsky.social @hrna.bsky.social

Essentially: We won't save *those* lives and you had better not try to do it either. Great job, @vanislandhealth.bsky.social. πŸ˜’πŸ˜’πŸ˜’

Removal of Dr. Wilder from her Island Health harm reduction role is disgraceful. It reflects BC’s approach to the forever crisis www.policeoversight.ca/p/removal-of... #drugsky

Take a minute to read this letter from MSTH's Wanda Leblanc about the impossible situation Nanaimo's unhoused population faces during winter weather. Why is it left to volunteers to support them? Over 100 people were at Risebridge today. @power1312.bsky.social @momsstoptheharm.bsky.social

Super excited about this one. Check it out!

I miss being able to look at social media and not see Trump's face.

Scrolling through my photos instead of Instragram and found this one. It's a whole ass mood, and an accurate summary of how I'm doing today. Anyone else? #everythingisfine

Taking a meta detox and wondering what to do with my accounts. I have things I've made that I want out in the world, but with 100% less zuckerberg stink on them. So anyway, here are some drawings that deserve to be out there for other confused undergrads trying to survive biopsych class 🧠

Because the world is burning, please enjoy a photo of my cats booping snoots. They would boop yours too, if they could. #catsofbluesky #catsky

Because the world feels heavy, please enjoy this adorable dog photo in your news feed instead of a news article. Schroeder loves you! #dogsofbluesky #dogsky

A huge thank you to everyone who came out for our overdose response training event last night. It was a packed room! We appreciate Shannon Witham for sharing her knowledge with us πŸ’œ Here are a few things that we learned πŸ‘‡πŸ§΅ #overdoseresponsetraining #harmreductionsaveslives
