DOGE staffer Gavin Kliger has amplified Nick Fuentes & called for a pardon of Derek Chauvin. As of 2/7/25, Kliger was still employed by Databricks—backed by DOGE advisor Marc Andreessen’s VC firm, which has hired Daniel Penny (recently acquitted of manslaughter re: a Black man’s death) 2/7/25 1/

Coming around to the view that a certain kind of narcissist simply needs Musk to be a genius rather than a fraud, because they want to believe there’s a hereditary Brahmin class of accomplished, beautiful minds—and that they’re a part of that class.

Many people are saying that they’ve never seen federal spending as tremendously efficient and not wasteful as it is today.

(AP) — Elon Musk’s cost-cutting team is eliminating jobs at the vehicle safety agency that oversees Tesla and has launched investigations into deadly crashes involving his company’s cars. #OligarchEra 🇺🇸 apnews.com/article/musk...

The attacks on DEI are a pretext for a much more radical agenda of reversing the gains of the civil rights movement, an objective the Trump administration is pursuing with zeal. A Great Resegregation. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

I literally reported this Wednesday.

Trash headline after trash headline. This one portrays fascism as nothing more than a quirky new form of governance.

Completely nuts.

The entire business model of American R1 universities is not viable without restoration of federal funding, & every individual institution pretending it can solve this problem alone is also not viable. University presidents need to be speaking out, collectively & loudly about this, in DC, right now.

Illegally cutting cancer research and meals on wheels to pay for PR ads for themselves.

Elon has intervened in two legal requests in the US: one for Trump, and another for likely suspect leakers. A description of his efforts to stall the Trump warrant is in the Jack Smith report that Aileen Cannon is refusing to release.

It isn’t about fraud; it’s never been about fraud or waste. It’s about wrecking the government. It’s about destroying the United States. We all need to face this simple obvious fact before it’s too late.

these clowns are genuinely not prepared for the violent backlash that's coming their way once the cascading failures from destroying government agencies and the social safety net start to manifest in concussive, very unsubtle waves

AP could have been cowardly and rolled over for Trump. “We had to comply or we’d lose [funding/access/privileges]” like so many orgs are doing. It would have been easy for them to say “gulf of America” But it never stops there. They got the memo. Good job AP.

This is so many words to say Trump fired the chairman of the joint chiefs because he’s black www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

People experiencing pregnancy loss in states with abortion bans told us they wished they had known what to expect and how to advocate for themselves. We created this guide for anyone who finds themselves in the same position.

Firing all of the JAGs (Judge Advocates General)—the top lawyers in each service branch—is just as bad as, if not worse than, firing (most of) the Joint Chiefs.

today in breaking laws no matter how obscure, ladies and gentlemen, the Goldwater-Nichols Act

Of the Chiefs of Staff, vice chiefs of staff, and judge advocates general of the three branches, Trump fired all the women and Black people.

This letter is a remarkable combination of stupid and ominous.

So the President not only fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. He also fired the top JAGs at the Army, Navy and Air Force. Those are the lead people who determine what is a legal order and what is not. So if you're planning to do things that are illegal they're the most obvious obstacle.

saying it again: if there are "conditions" on aid to california, no democrat should vote for any disaster aid of any kind to any state. all states get aid or no states get aid. that's it

And we got finger-wagged by a New England journo "expert" for not staying in our lane and sticking to our knitting (his words) and leaving hard stuff to (paywalled) NYT and Wapo. So we were right, and we did the right thing, and we didn't need anyone's permission to make our own news decisions.

A year ago this month, Trump said he would encourage Russia to attack NATO allies and "do whatever the hell they want" unless allies paid up. We thought it was so important, we ran it on the front page of the @mississippifreepress.org at a time when the New York Times and others didn't.

MORE NEWS: A federal judge has granted an even more extensive block of DOGE's access to Treasury systems, saying there is a "realistic danger" that the "rushed" process to access sensitive payment systems has compromised data. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Seeing the members of Boyz II Men in a smiling picture with creepy insurrectionist white supremacist Mike Johnson knowing full well that he’s a terrorist who is actively helping to destroy the country is disgusting. I’ve always loved their music, but I’m done with them.

Following a loud public outcry about job cuts at the National Parks Service — and a relentless media campaign from outdoors enthusiasts across the country — it looks like the Trump administration has blinked. via @jackdolan.bsky.social

American Pundits: It was an exuberant and controversial gesture of uncertain significance… Actual Fascists: It’s a Nazi salute.

This is climate arson, yes, but also the entire value proposition of Tesla, the reason for its insane stock price, is that it would end up the Amazon of electric cars: the only real game in town. Killing off non-Tesla electric car infrastructure is a gift to Musk.

Replace "western" with "white" and "unvetted" with "non-white," and you'll understand exactly what he's saying here.

After this tweet went viral, Jesse and I talked about the possibility of a recession for my newsletter. You can also listen to it on your favorite podcast app! Just search for The Cross Section. paulwaldman.substack.com/p/is-the-nex...

OMB director Russ Vought has officially begun carrying out his section of Project 2025. Technical thread to follow, but it’s really important - this is a major path through which the Trump administration will illegally impound funding, refusing to carry out some of our spending laws.

It seems almost unavoidable at this point that we are headed for a deep, deep recession. Just based on 200K+ federal firings & pullback of contracts, the March employment report (to be released April 4) seems certain to show bigger job losses than any month ever outside of a few in 2008-9 and 2020.

Speaking of Krause, here is Judge Vargas's order barring DOGE from access to Treasury systems, just issued today storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
