Metro Vancouver's 2024 Statement of Financial Information is out. Expenses for board members were $143,162 for the year, down 37% after intense criticism (mostly for international travel). CAO Jerry Dobrovolny received $592,416, down from $674,527 in 2023. Full report in the link.

michelle you have picked literally the worst person on earth to start this argument with

oh my god you guys, run, don't walk to this hidden gem of a $20,000 contract by vancouver to have influencers talk about how authentic vandusen and bloedel gardens are www.instantmarkets.com/view/ID17629...

Here's my story and video on Vancouver's new plan for Granville Street, what needs to happen to make a vehicle-free street work, and how we've been down this road before www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Planners: to connect British Columbians living next to the ocean, we'll have a fleet of publicly owned ferries People: cool Planners: the main terminals will be in greater vancouver, greater victoria, nanaimo and gibsons People: makes sense Planners: every terminal will be called something else

amusing that on the same day of reporting on the future of Granville Street I’m at an event on the future of Granville Island (complete with a @uytaelee.bsky.social video!)

The Santa Ono controversy has been very ironic considering that seven years ago UBC's student newspaper did an entire issue spoofing him when he was UBC's president as a vain people pleaser who would say whatever was necessary to make a controversial issue go away

i passed by colin mochrie not once but twice in our newsroom as he waited for a radio interview while i edited a story and finally came up with saying "my favourite whose line game is three headed broadway star" BUT NOW IT'D BE WEIRD IF I WANDERED BY A THIRD TIME TO SAY IT

Vancouver's real estate market has been marked by low sales and stable prices for nearly three years now. That's a combination that hasn't happened this century. Here's my look at the newest data.

i can't *prove* that my employer resurrected our cursed 1980s mascot after i started using it as a meme but if they did i'm not sorry

Heard the phrase "Joffre Lakes won the underrated hidden gem award" on the news, and immediately had an image of @jmcelroy.bsky.social's version of hell

Just saw a segment on Global BC where Joffre Lakes won an award for "underrated hidden gem" and there was some kind of grinding noise in the background. I suspect it was @jmcelroy.bsky.social

dunno why everyone is worried about the youth, having your early teen years during the video social media surge, your main teen years during the pandemic and your first few years of university during the ai explosion seems like a winning combo

"I'm dealing with middle age well," he said, as he prepared to argue with younger colleagues why their love of the Shrek franchise was unsophisticated, firmly pointing out to them that Shrek had little to offer culturally beyond 21st century riffing on traditional fairy tales. "They appreciate me."

i think it's fun the vancouver park board insists on staying on twitter so they can give blow by blow updates of meetings to 10 to 15 accounts really solid use of time

The provincial government did a little media tour inside the Broadway Subway Line but didn’t have any updates except to say “it’s on time”. Except, it really isn’t. Here’s my short video on the rather lengthy delays.

exciting development: hidden gems are no longer just for basic children that want to feel special while drinking a matcha latte at an already reasonably popular place they’re also for realtors who want to sell you a one bedroom condo for $750,000

after making silly faces around the world it’s such a treat to make silly faces on top of beautiful mountains in my backyard anyways the chief is great

excited to be a celebrity guest judge for a battle of the bar bands night by the vancouver legal profession, which is the exact right level of notoriety also it’s a fun excuse to hang out in the commodore for a night

spent 20 years living in vancouver having never done the grouse grind and frankly could spend another 20 enjoying more interesting hikes with better views but sometimes it’s important to do something now you can properly judge in the future

wikipedia is an amazing resource, but sometimes for regional journalists something is created once and then barely updated, which is how the biggest section for @richardzussman.bsky.social is when he was on a bus in new hampshire 17 years ago

NEW - MLAs have voted to pass Bill 14 - which will fast track clean energy projects - by a one vote margin. It was a tie: Cons, Greens and Independents voted against. The speaker voted to break it. At 8pm, MLAs will vote on Bill 15, which will fast track infrastructure projects. #bcpoli

You can no longer be a provincial MLA AND a city councillor/mayor/regional district director at the same time www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

The Vancouver School Board creating a graphic showing how it's going to take 23 years to build a single school for a centrally planned neighbourhood in the heart of B.C.'s biggest city serves as a hilarious indictment of how planning happens here (credit to @city-duo.bsky.social for flagging)

At a press conference, Web Summit CEO Paddy Cosgrove says “to reference Tropic Thunder”, Donald Trump has “gone full retard” when it comes to international relations. then says “that’s a popular culture reference instead of an offensive reference”
