@ppfideas.bsky.social really enjoyed listening to David on BBC R4. That and the Test Match are almost all that stopped me launching my smart speakers through the window.

To be expected: ✅ James holds up a model kit to show listeners before realising it's an audio podcast ✅ Jane mentions minelaying and/or 10 Squadron ✅ Halifaxes and Blenheims a plenty ✅ Great guests and insights into one of history's most fascinating topics

So, reading this book. Chapter on the exploitation of Hinderburg’s image in commercial advertising. There is a photo of the German icon standing in an Opel car. I thought of that fool Trump shilling for Tesla in front of the WH. Is Opel still a thing?

Mic drop.

Shares these on the other place. #histbookchat

We are 'frightfully keen' for listeners to know that Alex, as he was often known, was a charming, charming, man. This made him both a skilled diplomat, and effective leader. There are some wonderful moments described in this week’s episode, featuring James Holland waxing lyrical on his hero.

On this week's episode of the @holocaustpod.bsky.social, we look at a lot of things: Magnus Hirschfeld's research into trans people, the LGBTQ struggle for rights in Weimar Germany, and the Nazi repression of LGBTQ folks. Check it out! #Pride 🏳️‍🌈

Another enjoyable weekend read courtesy of @navalairhistory.com & @ospreypublishing.bsky.social, covering the wartime role of the fabulous Fairey Swordfish. Published in July. #histbookchat Please find below a link to my book review. historybookchat.blogspot.com/2025/06/swor...

Hoped to be done with this today but there’s a lot of detail to reflect, even if it’s just hinted at

The other day I was complaining about the cost of academic books. Another one right in my zone of interest; End Game: The 1989 Revolution in East Germany, £136! Published by @berghahnbooks.bsky.social in ‘22. Time for a reasonable priced paperback.

The Sunday Tea Time Rock Show returns to Radio Winchcombe this evening at 6pm. Two hours of outstandingly good rock music online or via smart speaker.🤘😎

Saw this off the plot this morning. Recommended to me by @adamwatkinson1.bsky.social. I read little fiction and what I do read is typically historical fiction. It was a fun read, made me chuckle a few times.

This offer and the competition runs until Monday. Why not take a look to see if there is something that takes your fancy?

My book comes out next week. Something like this cannot be written without the help and support of a lot of good people. So I'd like to publicly acknowledge and thank them for all our good conversations. A lot of them are here on BluSky but I am not going to tag them all.
