Hey Ottawa! If you need a little warmth in your heart to deal with the latest snowfall why not come to the Ottawa Children’s Choir sing-a-thin today at the NAC at 10:00 am. We’ve got fantastic music, interactive sing-a-longs, and some of the cutest choristers around! It’ll be a blast!

Maybe it’s just me but I think if you put “beseech” into the Strands word search, that should be one of the words for which you are searching!

Got lazy and drove to the polling station. The entire voting process took us 10 minutes door to door. I’m all for efficiency (it’s wonderful!) but the lack of any line at all has me worried we won’t even crack 40% turnout.

And in case @seanbawden.bsky.social is curious, yes, I have managed to include My Little Pony.

Hey BlueSky: Tomorrow I'm giving a talk to high school girls on understanding finances (different kinds of accounts, short-term v long-term savings, how income is taxed, understanding how cash flow works, etc). Is there anything particular you wish you had learned in high school I could include?

I actually expected larger.

Now following @callacbd.bsky.social because I’m never come across an instance in my life where librarians weren’t in the right.

Another day when I am forever thankful I invested in a snowblower 15 years ago.

I know it will do absolutely nothing but it still felt awfully good to write.

Question #1: Does this make the doctors unionized employees with benefits and a pension? If so, I can see a sudden influx of family doctors to Orillia (which would only be good for Orillia).

I have questions but this is the kind of thinking family medicine needs. It is ridiculous family doctors are small business owners. The model no longer makes sense. Removing barriers (like setting up an entire clinic) will only help benefit the practice.

My $200 Doug Ford cheque arrived today. While I have my traditional charities to which I donate, if anybody has any suggestions for new orgs I could consider they would be appreciated!

Agree entirely. There is so much potential for women’s sports to create a true foothold here and build an even stronger following.

every book about baseball & every book about hockey

The highlight of 2025 to date. Watching the 6 y.o.’s reaction to the NAC Orchestra play the William Tell Overture. I could live that moment 100x over and could do it 100 more and it would never get old.

Helping the 6 y.o. with her “Spot the Unicorns” book has gotten much better since I’ve started wearing glasses. Imagine that!

Mike Sweeney adding to the Ichiro mythology

Apropos of nothing this is my morning earworm. To anyone needing the jolt of happiness with your caffeine here you go: m.youtube.com/watch?v=HUgw...

I’m reading a book to my 6 y.o. which has a chapter featuring a therapy dog named Virginia Woof and a librarian who isn’t afraid of her and that little spark of whimsy is what I needed today.

Thinking of trans people today, the attacks and bigotry they'll endure over these years, and the failure of mainstream media and greater society to behave with decency and offer support to the marginalized. We must be brave, take action, and listen to those who ask for help, for the good of us all.

Forgot the Pat King sentencing was still ongoing at the Ottawa Courthouse this morning. Remembered awfully quickly as soon as I was heckled for wearing a mask on my way in. What fun times...

This is entirely about pictures. He doesn't want there to be pictures where his crowd is obviously smaller than anybody else's. Nothing more than that.

STARTER PACK: I covered many WBB Final Fours for Sports Illustrated which got me into women's basketball. I remain an avid watcher of the product. If interested: I put together a list of Women's Basketball Media on Bluesky (68 people and counting) and I'll keep adding. go.bsky.app/Us93TYp

49 minutes in the digital waitroom and counting. The stress of summer camp sign-ups is far too great.

Putting change in the tollbox of an OC Transpo bus and getting a paper transfer ripped diagonally across the time it expires. The whole exchange, as monotonous as it was, felt like freedom for a 10 y.o.

I’ve been a Joe Sheehan subscriber for years and have never once regretted it. I learn something new in pretty much every single newsletter.

Me: Wearing a mask at work because I still have a runny nose and a bit of a cough and don't want to infect anyone. My associate: "Judging by the LRT this morning everyone in the City has a runny nose and a cough. You're just the only one masking."

The 6 y.o. was a little confused. So I show her the pinball machine for #4. “Daddy, that makes no sense!” Me: “Would it help if I showed you #12?” 6 y.o.: “Yes!” It did.

I received this super-awesome shirt out of the blue from my sister (the incomparable) @candershamilton.bsky.social and I am yet to find the words to describe just how happy it makes me.

Have to admit I was thinking the exact same thing.

I don't think people realize how fucked most Ontario universities are. Successive gov'ts haven't just tanked funding for 20 years, the current gov't has cut and frozen tuition. We're looking at a dozen or more Laurentian-style bankruptcies in the next five or so years if something doesn't give.

I have no idea which of my darling children chose to loop the ornament hooks around every Xmas tree branch instead of just hanging them but suffice to say they’re out of the will.

One of the reasons I could afford law school (and could afford to go out during law school) is because I cooked every meal I ate. I would make something big on Saturday, something big on Sunday, and would eat leftovers all week. 20+ years later I still use that strategy to make work nights easier.

The 11 y.o. has a school assignment over the holidays requiring her to make some food which is a tradition in our family. Mmmm…Yorkshire pudding.
