Doug Ford is taking one of the best university systems in the world and torching it. We'll have a system that prepares young adults for yesterday's jobs, that is devoid of the core liberal arts education universities have fostered for generations, leading to a dumber, less productive society.

We won't be left with universities. We'll have a set of technical institutes or engineering schools while humanities and social sciences are shuttered. Critical thinking, history, civics, all the knowledge, skills, and *societal* innovation that countries need to thrive will be a mere residue.

The Office of the President demanded 5% reductions in the budgets of every faculty. Yet the Office of the President didn’t apply those rules to themselves.

I watched the staff in 11 years increase from 9 to 14 by the time I retired. Internal Audit was too cowardly to confront them!

The Office of the President actually had 2 office managers that they reclassified as AVP’s (Assistant Vice-Presidents) with dramatically higher pay levels. Why? Because the President was too cowardly to fire one. AVP’s are paid $200-300,000.00!

I've had kids in an Ontario uni for the last nine years and the change is noticeable. Last kid is almost done and we see less financial support, fewer course offerings, difficulty getting into classes she wants. Tuition freeze, OSAP changes, lousy funding and Covid have wrecked schools.

Yep. Can't offer courses when you can't hire faculty. Can't offer good services, financial aid, etc. when there are multi-million deficits imposed on the institutions by the provincial government. I don't think Covid is much of the story, although for two or so years there it sucked.

The covid effect was temporary but made the university experience miserable for a couple years. Now students may face issues because workers who have been screwed over by Bill 124 need to strike to catch up. And kiss funding for postgrad degrees goodbye. It's a mess.
