It’s cat day today! ((Neko-no-Hi (猫の日)): 2/22 = nyu, nyu, nyu( meow) Instead of a cute book about cats and coffee shops, here is a song about a cat, curry rice and the death of Yukio Mishima youtu.be/ZH9qxETBsG8?...

From the Tumblr regime to the 4chan regime. I might quibble with the periodisation but the point is right. "Perhaps a better way of putting this would be to say that politics at this point just is online adolescent jouissance". www.the-hinternet.com/p/my-kind-of...

I hoped never to hear from Seb Gorka again after 2020 but he’s back with that BBC interview ( credit to Victoria Derbyshire there, but why should I link?)

Undo the Glasgow block?

Thanks David Lynch: my friends and I saw Mulholland Drive at the Duke of York cinema, Brighton before the reviews came out, and so were unprepared for such a strange, sad and disconcerting film. And such a lovely man in life, it seems.

There is a slight degree of gatekeeping and entitlement in this piece ( “I was here before you!”) but it touches on a truth: “soft power” was intended for exports, but now the sinking yen has made Japan a cheap(ish) tourist destination, how should communities best respond?

Shame to hear this about my first university, which was a good experience for me. Perhaps it had a problem with its location in England, as well as the unfair dilemma of other non-RG 1960s institutions. Solidarity to all.

Sad news about the redoubtable John Prescott. My only encounter with him is when he was guest quizmaster at some NOLS event around 1991.

Zao onsen in Yamagata this weekend

Sad and disturbed by the sudden death of the music writer Neil Kulkarni, as reported today. I enjoyed his impassioned and knowledgeable commentary of pop, hip hop, alt-rock, and growing up with Top Of The Pops.

One of the oldest original buildings in Japan : the Kozo-Ji temple (1177) in a quiet part of Miyagi prefecture.

One of the most enjoyable poetry translations of 2023: Saito Sanki, 20th century dissident haiku poet, translated by Saito Masaya ( no relation), Isobar Press. All the youths/ with hands in pockets- / cloudy sky over cherry blossoms

New year, new account, see how it goes ( That is from the local New Year festival)
