Aside from the extremely nonnegotiable safety issues around making “bright minds” the solution to air traffic control (No! Bad!) this is just such an awful conflict of interest. He’s taking away a very safe system in exchange for personal enrichment.

Giving in because one is afraid won't protect us — it will bring about the authoritarian regime we fear. We need to support those who are still willing to stand up for what is right and to tell the truth. Time for me to subscribe to Democracy Docket. I urge you to do the same.

DAILY DEMS DOING THE WORK, MAKING NOISE, AND FIGHTING BACK Day 21 And a reminder that these don’t go viral by magic. We have to spread these stories so they have the kind of reach we need them to have! 🧵

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

No fights are the wrong fight to pick. Pick every fight. Fight these fascist fuckers every time about everything. Fight them even when they aren't fighting. If they run away, chase them and keep fighting them until they beg to stop and then fight even harder.

DAILY DEMS DOING THE WORK, MAKING NOISE, AND FIGHTING BACK Day 17 We begin today with another @senatedem.bsky.social post cloture debate. This one is 24 hours and against RFK. @wyden.senate.gov is leading this one youtu.be/LqlNvFhDeXA 🧵

Again, Twitter WON this case (decisively) at the district court level. The 9th Circuit made it clear that Twitter would win on appeal at oral args. And now it decided to just hand over $10 million to Trump. www.cnbc.com/2025/02/12/e...

Oh my GOD. I (like most of us) didn’t bother to look at the DOGE site bc the whole thing is BEYOND stupid and deadly, but Imani is exactly right. Holy fuck I want to die

And this is how all of us who have been critical of NYT coverage on everything can be guaranteed that Lipton and the NYT are reading those comments. Excellent job, everyone, keep it up!

i am going to put a finer point on this: executive orders are not laws. and they certainly are not royal decrees. they are interpretations of existing law for the purposes of enforcement. the fact that so many people are treating them as laws is actually driving me a bit insane.

"the company’s elevated stock price becomes increasingly dependent on the belief that Musk the magician can deliver wildly creative new products. That image is fading." @davidzipper.bsky.social why boycotting Telsa could make Elon hurt

Reminder: Don’t follow art theft accounts that post other people’s work with no credits. They make the internet worse.

Neither Trump nor Musk nor anyone in their orbit knows how to run a legitimate business. It's all scams, so they don't understand why "just bribe them" is bad business. People who run actual businesses understand the value of blaming the lawyers for why you can't do a thing you don't want to do.

We’ve become used to right wingers throwing tantrums every time black people are on tv in something everyone is watching (the olympics, superbowl, ect) but it’s actually fucking weird and we shouldn’t act like that’s a normal reaction

In this Ohio diner, they care more about eliminating DEI.

When a kid with ties to Russian and Nazi hackers dumps data from our most sensitive systems, we should demand the New York Times screams about it. NYT knows how to make computer server security an issue. They did that to get Trump elected in 2016. They choose not to now.

Chuck Feeney here who died in 2023. A man who made an estimated €8 billion out of Duty Free and then gave it all away to make the world a better place. A modest man too. Which is why you may never have heard of him. www.forbes.com/sites/steven...

Let me translate this #MurdochJournal headline into the original German: Führer's Use of Dachau Signals Hard Line Against Liberals and Jews Stimmt?

Keep in mind, when you read this, that districts in Texas, Florida and elsewhere have banned the Diary of Anne Frank

The civility police who had a big problem with Sarah Huckabee Sanders getting a cheese plate and an invitation to leave from a bistro haven’t been very visible about this sort of thing from the White House Director of Communications.

His administration is literally composed of men who beat and batter women.

I would like our media to become permanently hyperfixated on Marco Rubio’s recent negotiations to put immigrants and US citizens in El Salvadorian prisons.

I’ll see this and raise you: the way TUSCANS pronounce “cinema”

I bet all those liberals who screamed "Yes Elon is bad, but the Rest of SpaceX is good!" at me for several years are gonna be really embarrassed when they learn dozens of SpaceX employees end execs are gleefully executing Musk's Nazi coup right now

Elon Musk's mother moved to South Africa in the year Apartheid was created, and she and Elon left the year it ended. The last Apartheid Prime Minister, a man who refused to testify at the Truth and Reconciliation Committee, was a family friend who stayed at their home. This is not a crazy theory.

"No one could have anticipated this" Everyone who was paying attention anticipated exactly this, you motherfucking assholes "The one particular thing I care about wouldn't have been any different under Kamala" FUCK YOU

also it doesn't even matter if they are or aren't feds. If they haven't been willing to have real conversations about safety , especially safety for the marginalized in ways you can find. They will not have good safety practices for you.

All of this either breaks the U.S. beyond repair or breaks the Republican party for decades. The first is far more likely, but we can hope/work for the second.

I'll remind Will that the Black vote is the Actual Base of the Party. This is just outright racism.

ayup the check is coming due for the multi-decade assault on journalism and its replacement with right wing propaganda and corporatist infotainment

Reposting with alt text. In case it inspires anyone else out there to hold the line.

It is well past time we have a conversation about “boomers.” When I do political activism outside of social media, it is not Gen Z that I am doing it with. It’s people in their 50s and 60s and 70s and 80s. I’m the youngest person 99% of the time. 1/2

The Musk coup is weird for many reasons, but one especially weird one is that so many of us here & on Bad Site are extremely familiar with his willingness to mess with people's livelihood and safety for the lulz. Which makes it especially baffling that more journalists aren't sounding the alarm.

It’s been inspiring to see everyone come together for LA,,, but there’s one community I need to highlight. Not enough is being done for the black families after the LA fires. Ive partnered up with GoFundMe and the BMAC to create ONE main GoFundMe campaign to immediately help those in need. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Can we call them digital brownshirts?

It’s important to know that a lot of productive activity is happening in person and offline, too. Not all of it can be broadcast online, but we’ve had hundreds of people showing up to our trainings, mobilizations, and more. Keep going. Tyranny is eroded by a sea of small acts. Everything matters.

NEW: WIRED has identified six young men—all apparently between the ages of 19 and 24, according to public databases, their online presences, and other records—who have little to no government experience and are now playing critical roles in Musk’s DOGE project. By @telliotter.bsky.social
