Beautiful rain just now in Bham. It’s been a hot day at my parents’ and I’m pretty sure some heating is stuck on. Everything says it’s off, but this house always used to stay cool in summer.

I proof-read daughter’s a-level geography project. It was very long and I felt sorry for teachers having to mark a ton of them. I couldn’t tell if she’d done well or not, turns out she has, so that’s a relief.

cis folks, i'm curious for you to share answers, if you want: what made you start caring about trans rights? who'd you know/what happened? tell me the story.

Innovative things that parents do: on finding the coffee too bitter, add Sprite

Lessons to learn from US collapse: support local news, support investigative reporting, keep your public broadcasting going.

#EfES thought for today...💭 Children love learning ways to help improve our environmental systems, but they're even more enthusiastic about taking action. Today Y2s worked to answer the @ministryofeco.bsky.social question "How important are soils?". They're now compost advocates & worm whisperers 😃

PATHETIC @bankofengland.bsky.social Pathetic.

Was having a political espionage thriller dream and there were two agents whose main job was to get musicals into everything.

1. You feel powerless? Don’t know what you can do to resist the rise of fascism? Here is an answer: Good Things. Fascism inflicts pain and harm as a matter of doctrine. Kindness, care and conviviality defend us from it. The more we build community, the less it can take root. 🧵

This to me is the most striking finding on the depth of UK support for Ukraine. We know there is strong support for Ukraine in general but the fact that it even persists traded off against maintaining relations with for the US is a testament to how deep that support is.

Genuinely all people who live in the world should be forced to make a single garment of clothing from beginning to end at the onset of adulthood to understand how much labour goes into clothing production.

What I did during France Wales.

Never believe that anti-Semites are unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. Jean-Paul Fuckin’ Sartre

Wow. Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde fearlessly calls out Trump and Vance to their faces. This is heroic. (posting in 3 parts due to Bluesky's 1 minute limit)

This report shows that the Paris Agreement massively underplays risks Yet the UNFCCC within which it sits is supposed to establish a precautionary principle, i.e. don't take risks. Looks like that got completely ignored

Yes the super rich have horrendous emissions But they also make unsustainable lifestyles look desirable, use their social and cultural power to perpetuate the idea that everything's fine, and wield their political and financial power to maintain and worsen the status quo

Re-posts from Exeter peeps especially welcome 😊 Thank you 🧑‍🦽🚶🚴🛴

Need a first aider for a volunteering work party in Liskeard; Cornwall Feb 16th. The work is using hand tools to cut down Christmas-tree sized conifers on a hill. No trouble so far but legally need someone. I usually do it but I’ll be up north mangling rhododendrons in a community woodland.

It's New Year's Eve, I'm full of raclette and sitting in my comfy rocking chair - a good opportunity to look back on my favorite reads of 2024 (in no particular order): - 'Mermedusa' by @thomastaylor.bsky.social - the 5th and final book in the Eerie-on-Sea series - I love them all! #booksky
