so open weights would be it’s visible that “has ears” is a key point in determining whether the model decides if the picture is a dog. open source is when you know for sure the data that the model was trained on had dogs in it! because “has ears” could be a true for a cat too

not super technical so this could be wrong! but weights are like “decisions” but expressed numerically! in a rly simplistic eg: a weight could be “has ears” for a model trying to identify dogs, and that was reached by looking at a bunch of pictures and seeing what is or isnt a dog

The question before us now is, WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT IT? How can we build better relations between data, energy, resources, and communities? It's not just about running data centers on clean energy. It's about how ecological and social equity is distributed across these relations.

this isnt like the current publishing model, where quantity is pushed till u hit a handful of bestsellers (obv excluding the definite bestsellers like big-name authors) this AI model wd just b generating slop w/ little chance for a tentpole bestseller, right?

be it old photos, a social graph, or a username. Most of them don't really care about the underlying technology...but they do care about continuity of service and being able to escape crappy service providers." shkspr.mobi/blog/2024/11... 2/2
