Love to say you’re running government like a business and then immediately gut the accounts receivable team

This is an important essay.

Did Trump really appoint himself head of the Kennedy Center!? Ok…not the biggest problem we face but really a great example of the farcical nature of his second administration.

Putin and Xi are having a great great week.

My family came here in 1664 to the Massachusetts colony. Everyone born in this country is my fellow citizen. Anyone who says otherwise can go to hell.

For all the real threats that Trump represents, he did relatively little permanent damage in his first term. He weakened norms, but no structural destruction. My worry is that he will move beyond norm destruction in his 2nd term.

Okay, not the worst thing that will happen over the next four years -- but, we have to deal with idiot journalists saying, at various moments, "this is when Trump really grew into the presidency". Or, some variation of that. Pretty much every SOTU, I bet.

For the first time in a while overdose deaths are declining - seven straight months of declines. The cause is complicated but appears to be the culmination of a number of different Biden admin policy initiatives coming to fruition. And yet it meant absolutely nothing politically.

Absolute classic

"He is not awful," George Szell raved. cc @musicologyman.bsky.social

@jacobtlevy.bsky.social says what needs to be said. My God the argument of letting Trump off is risible.

So I am depressed about our world. The logical thing to do is watch Tinker, Tailor Soldier Spy. Would you agree @tamsinshaw.bsky.social?

My mom had to go to the hospital last night. I am stressed.

I have not blocked anyone on here yet. But knowing I can is a significant comfort to me.

In April 1933, Bonhoeffer raised the first voice for church resistance to Hitler's persecution of Jews, declaring that the church must not simply "bandage the victims under the wheel, but jam a spoke in the wheel itself."

Blue Sky this week as a bunch of new people join.

@tamsinshaw.bsky.social, @musicologyman.bsky.social so, in case I am secretly held hostage the signal for help is me posting, "Don't get the Szell version, I think he is an overrated conductor."

Remember people -- Hegseth is unacceptable. Gaetz, Gabbard and RFK might be more ostentatiously awful -- but PH is just as awful and in a more powerful position (Gaetz as AG being possibly equally powerful).

I saw someone say the goal of Trump's appointments is to shock. I don't see many Democrats or those on the left in a state of shock. No, if there is any shock it is to Republicans and those on the right.

Fox News host Pete Hegseth has said on air that he has not washed his hands for 10 years because "germs are not a real thing". Speaking on Fox and Friends, Hegseth said the infectious micro-organisms did not exist because they could not be seen with the naked eye. "I inoculate myself,"

Some thoughts about Trump's "honeymoon". On one hand part of it will be based on the economy. Whatever Trump believes or says, the US economy is a good shape and will continue to be so for the near term.

Rubio is a terribly weak, sad choice for State. And, yes, he is the best choice of the ones rumored.
