A polite bigot is a bigot nonetheless. A true warrior knows that courteous words do not dilute the poison, but only serve to conceal it until it has spread. Civility in the service of hate deserves no polite response.

Old School US Military: Boring dads (and increasingly moms) who can get a shipping container full of explosives, MREs, & spare parts anywhere in the world in 72 hours with no drama. Cult of the Operator: Midlife crisis dads (and occasionally moms) who will starve to death w/o the old school types.

Worth reposting today. When you get a glossy flyer for a Dem during the midterms, make sure you see where they stood during the protests and what message they sent out. And whom they blamed for the violence. There's right and wrong here.

What's up, HBPD?

"First responders" needs to be abolished from style guides because its purpose is to smuggle cops into a category that includes EMTs and firefighters. The phrase is deliberate copaganda that allows abusers to borrow an aura of respectability from other groups.

this bitch sounds really smart. and sexy

if the democrats were running on "the other guy is bad" & winning every election in a landslide, even if they did jack shit of any worth while in power you could be like well they suck but at least their electoral tactic is keeping the worse guy out. but they don't! they run on that and lose lol

using "the other guy sucks!" as a voting tactic is bad both because 1) if you announce you're willing to vote for a bad candidate just because the other guy is worse, that's all you'll get & 2) it clearly doesn't work, as evidenced by how the worse parties win at least half of the time anyway

The owner of Twitter sends out 100 right wing propaganda tweets every single day and the algorithm is set up so that every single person on Twitter has to see every single one of these tweets. Now here’s another piece about Blue Sky’s ideological diversity problem.

“the other guy sucks” and things like it ignore that the important issues get kicked down the road until someone nefarious does what they want with it. Every problem we’re facing is a ratcheting of Reagan and W Bush policy that no one stopped. Was Kamala going to abolish ICE?

Somehow it is both a fundamental, constitutionally protected right to protest… and also to wield the weapons and tactics of war against protestors?? It’s fucked up that we’ve let the cops get away with this for so long with no change. Defund the police was the moderate compromise.

Nobody is rioting. Nobody is breaking any laws. These are cops in my city of Las Vegas just assaulting and arresting anyone on Fremont Street who looks at them. This is fascism.

Remind me to do a thread on police crowd control formations. This is known as the "crossbow" formation, a riot police at the front with a column formed up behind it. The column will burst through the front to surprise the crowd. Often used as an arrest team to grab someone, sometimes for shock.

Millions of people marched. Millions. We hear that number a lot, even billion, so it doesn't sound as big as it should. That's a *lot* of people. Do you know, say, 100 people? A million is ten thousand times that many. Want to count to a million one per second? It'll take 11 days. A lot of people.

i'm surprised by how low energy and farcical that whole military parade situation was. I was expecting Moscow 1945 and we got Spirit Halloween instead.

Six GOP governors activated the National Guard ahead of #NoKings because they claimed the protesters may be violent. 5 million of us marched. And so far all actual violence seems to have come at the hands of counter-protesters, Christian nationalist terrorists and law enforcement.

Noem's rhetoric about prosecuting those who "doxx" ICE agents is fucking ludicrous. Every other agency is required to show identification at minimum while these unaccountable thugs disappear human beings and embolden cosplay copycats with total impunity.

I just got back home to finally sit down and watch the parade footage and it’s 100x more embarrassing than I expected. I totally forgot the weak nations that do these spend decades perfecting them. It looked like if Fyre festival did North Korea.

Remarkable. MSNC: "I want to reiterate this has been 100% peaceful." Seconds later, LA County sheriffs start firing on the crowd. Yet again, "law enforcement" deliberately escalated.

i remember watching the ferguson protest live and seeing cops deliberately escalate when the crowd was entirely peaceful. told a friend; they couldn't believe it. hope people see and believe their own eyes now.

Ferguson was really an eye opener for me. I was watching live streams on Twitter seeing multiple people from multiple angles document something in real time and then in the news the next day it would say the complete opposite of what I saw. truly rewrote my lifelong neural pathways

I love that a politician can say something like “I believe mice naturally spawn out of grain” and the news will now just treat that as a legitimate line of thought

Lot of great signs out there today too, I regret I didn’t get a picture of my favorite but my hands were full with my own sign. It said “The only king I believe in” with a hand drawn picture of Hank Hill on it. Pure chefs kiss

I just like to post these data from time to time to puncture the mythological aura of mid 20th c protests. They were less popular than pretty much any 21st c mass action & people criticizing them used the same lines. Protest is about people coming together, shaping narratives, & building power.

And there it is. The Minnesota assassin who shot Democratic lawmakers “voted for Donald Trump and was a strong Trump supporter,” according to his best friend.

I will hold the line on this. Right-wing violence has far more support, materially, institutionally and ideologically, in the U.S. than left-wing violence. There is no both-sidesing it.

They launched a coup, suffered no consequences for it, won back power, and have used the power to pardon everyone involved while remaking the country through violence and intimidation. It’s just ridiculous to talk about the political violence of yelling at ICE agents within that context.

This last week is a real demonstration of how capacious, yet flattened the word "violent" is in our political discourse. Political assassinations are obviously, clearly violent. But the same word has been used all week to describe protestors damaging objects--not people, objects.

The tech industry needs serious, meaningful regulation about the things it can sell and how it can sell them, and the neoliberal bullshit of “free markets” has allowed this nakedly harmful software to proliferate, taking advantage of the fact that more people than ever feel alone and desperate

The raids on my former home started today. Nobody is doing anything, as predicted.

The logical thing for the US to do was deny any involvement in the attack on Iran, which makes it harder for Iran to build a case for retaliating against the US. It looks like that was the direction they were heading until president dipshit decided to personally taunt Iran on social media.

This administration is making its intentions clear: Dissent will be punished, even if it comes from a sitting U.S. senator on federal ground. That’s not law enforcement. That’s repression. americanoversight.org/sen-alex-pad...

nonviolent protest doesnt exist in this day and age when the media can simply say it was violent and nobody can question the state

PSA for everyone going to protests

It’s day 8 in Occupied California, where there are more troops than the US has in Iraq and Syria combined to oversee protests where the biggest threat is how good the food is.

I have no intention of reading his statement and please don't take this as an invitation to explain it to me, but how do you talk about Pulse without mentioning LGBTQ+ and Latino people?

this is so amazing
