It's obviously not apples to apples, but here's a special event where 90% of the crowd is compelled to record with phones. As misguided as the people recording at theaters are, it's worth a little perspective. With that being said, please tuck your phone away for a couple hours and enjoy the movie.

I commend my friend Noah's bravery here, lol. He has an interesting perspective as always. I see the problem being that most normal people are only going to special event films (like Marvel or Wicked) which is about once or twice a year. Where do people like taking photos? Special events
