Same as original Blades, really. The stress cost usually covers it (it's a kind of Devil's Bargain), but if there's a threat involved in the flashback, you can roll for it (instead of a stress cost).

I like character creation up front, too -- and also I encourage people to read game books in whatever order they want. I'm not the boss of them, and no organization format can please everyone.
