I grew up in N Ireland in the 70s "baton rounds" were fired at the ground, so that they bounced up into the rioters (diminishing their force). A direct hit could be lethal. That round was fired directly at *someone*.

Once again, they're confusing "a free country" with "a country where you're free to take the consequences of your actions". There are laws about when a business can't refuse service. As long as they stay within those laws, they're free to refuse service. 👍

1. Your statement is false. 2. He travelled with a much wider group, including women.

And in the world they live in, when 2 dominant males scrap, it's for dominance; winner takes all.

Note: "the movement". Not the Republicans. He leads the Maga Movement, for the benefit of Trump. It's time the Republican Party realised that.

The important phrase in that diatribe is " ...full on anti-Trump..." That's the only important point to them, and the other things are just automatic insults. 🤔

One of Pratchett's many throw away lines that make fans smile smugly and think, "I get it ..." 😁

Oh she knows. They've been tutored to give 2 responses to awkward questions: "I don't recall ..." or "I'll have to get back to you ..." 🤔

I'm currently in Kos on the final day of my holiday (with TUI, by coincidence). Food has been a marvelous mix of ethnicities. The people have been incredible, and other than a little rain on day 1, sunny and hot.

Nevertheless, I understood the UK was exempt from the latest Trump tantrum.
comment in response to post
I may be wrong, but wasn't the UK exempted from the 50% tariffs? Don't get me wrong. I'm as surprised as anyone.

Terry Pratchett has a quote for every occasion:

This has got to be fake! 🫤

The fact that other schemes are set up for the benefit of the business and not the contributor is hardly the fault of LA employees.

So someone working for a Local Authority has the privilege of paying 12% of their salary in order to see their final pension increase by 1/50 of whatever they happened to earn that year. I'm sure other businesses could do the same.
comment in response to post
And the local authority pension scheme invested my contributions, so the risk is the same (except it seems they're better at it, since the LA pension scheme is fully funded and operating at a surplus 🤫)
comment in response to post
So knowing you're not getting a lot has benefits 👍 Most people I know in the private sector have noncontributory pension schemes. The local authority scheme is contributory (I was paying 12% of my salary by the end) for a defined "career average" payout.

50% of not a lot is not a lot 🫤

I wish someone would describe these "gold plated pensions". Whenever I ask people complaining about them, they never seem to be able to say what's gold plated about them 🤷
comment in response to post
I don't care if they're "bound by confidentiality rules" or not. They aren't entitled to personal data.

Of course he is! 🤫

I can never tell these days if people are being sarcastic! 🫤 (Yes, discourse has degraded that far)

Looks like someone is angling for a libel action against them 🤔 "working with terrorist organisations"?

... Or, their customer service is so appalling that we really should consider another supplier. 🤔

And WITHOUT telling the Americans - very sensible.

I worked for a local authority for 40 years. By the time I left, I was paying 12% of my gross salary into the pension scheme, (which is totally funded and running at a surplus). Can you say the same?
comment in response to post
I assume you mean the managing director of Reform UK Ltd, and not council staff. 👍

49 days as PM has provided her with a meal ticket for life. 😏
comment in response to post
Your timely reminder that "gold plated pensions" for council workers haven't existed for 20 years. They're a handy myth for the Right to roll out, when they need a headline.

Of course Ukraine didn't tell the US about the attack! If they had, the Russians would have known they were coming!

We met some of them on a plane to Copenhagen, where they were doing a setting of Hamlet. They were a great group of guys.
