For a few years now I've struggled to find the will to park my ass and read books for fun on a regular basis and I think Daniel Kraus might be the one to lift me out of this slump.

Your monthly reminder: Keep writing. When no one cares, persist. When things appear to be crumbling, keep at it. When it's difficult, push through. When you feel alone, listen to the stories in your blood. Just write. The world needs your stories.

Winston Churchill visiting the WH in 1942. Not wearing a suit

I know the hypocrisy will never matter, but watching Republicans pretend to be outraged over a wartime president not wearing a suit after Elon Musk presented to the White House in a printed t-shirt and trucker hat is... pathetic.

Trump has taken sides with Putin against Ukraine. Anything that doesn't make that clear is lousy journalism.

Many forget that before “The Birth of a Nation”, KKK membership was dwindling. But the movie depicted them positively and was even praised by President Wilson. Membership exploded. Endorsing and praising white supremacists and nazi sympathizers by the President today can lead us down the same road.

The headline that 21 DOGE staffers have resigned is a little misleading. These were employees of the United States Digital Service, which existed pre-administration and was absorbed into Musk’s team. These aren’t the young idiots; these are actual civil servants.

I’m jealous of anyone who studies with Jesús I. Valles at Sewanee this year.

s/o to New Material Books in Kansas City, a super unique and cool place. Imagine a store full of books you can’t get in person anywhere else. They carry those red empyrean books and I got one!

With world-renowned achievements in athletics, literature, architecture, education, journalism, and history, the 2025 Class of Lincoln Laureates embodies the very best that Illinois has to offer. Incredibly proud to award them our state’s highest honor.

The Illinois references in Cooties don't make much sense to me, but they are amusing nonetheless. And Ticks is worth your time hands down.

I nominate LeVar Burton in the celebrity-no-one-hates category.

Trump investigating anti-Christian bias reminds me of attending parochial school prior to public HS: My friends and I were surrounded by adults who put the Fear of God in us that public school would be a hell on earth like we'd never seen. Turned out most of the students at my HS were Christian.

News coverage is curated to pull a target audience who connect not with the journalism, but with the ads the sales department is selling. I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s not complicated to understand the model and many folks seem confused.

LOL

Eat a horseshoe in honor of Honest Abe's birthday. 🍔🍟🧀

HBD to Honest Abe.

A new series from @willhagle.bsky.social where he interviews other interviewers about interviewing. The first one is with John Milas. Quite interesting too! www.willhagle.com/p/interviewi...

Check out my interview with @johnmilas.bsky.social about interviewing! And thanks for reading, Blair

Google appears to be fully on board.

It's a coup.

I watched part of the Super Bowl so you don’t have to: the Jeremy Strong appearance in the Dunkin ad is worth your time.

If no one's going to talk about the new episode of Severance then Bluesky really does suck.

I really really need you guys to make a conscious rejection of generative AI tools part of your ongoing political resistance. Don't use ChatGPT. Turn off Gemini. Don't read the AI results forced upon you at the top of Google search. Don't use AI art generators or support anyone who does. Please.

Something about folks constantly leaving social media platforms for “better” experiences elsewhere (in whatever context that means) and never quite reuniting in the same place again seems kind of like something Elon would actually love to hear about.

I'm retired from seeing movies with Jurassic world in the title.

⚡️🖤COVER REVEAL! 🖤⚡️ THE BELLES, my dark academia debut novel with a Southern gothic twist, is coming in fall 2025 from @atriabooks! It's a story about girls behaving badly in an exploration of the intricacies of privilege, the dark side of girlhood, and the lengths we'll go to prove we belong.

Artists, if you're awake, draw inspiration from everything, *especially* the mundane. Always take your dreams and daydreams seriously.

Something about the unseasonably nice weather and/or the dismantling of essential government institutions has me wanting to sit outside and drink today.

My hometown is gradually becoming a sad joke.

The more I think about genre...me so confused... Labelling COME AND SEE as a horror movie always raises my hackles, yet the impulse to call SEVERENCE a 'thriller' when I feel it is clearly shot as horror annoys the hell out of me. Don't call X horror; please call Y horror? I don't even know.

So now that we've lost brain cells listening to RFK struggle to answer "yes" or "no" to yes or no questions, who's ready for lunch!

let's wake this up‼

The Democrats have failed us would be another valid spin.

i don't wanna hear your griping about revision and rewriting, either. learn to love revision and make it as immersive a writing experience as your first draft.

Imagine your boss offering condolences to the family of a guy who tried to kill you...
