Music is the most important thing but I'll discuss other matters too.

Her smirk grew smaller by the minute as the show went on.

I agree although the right wingers who post in "other place" will try to argue that it hasn't actually happened yet or, at least, not properly implemented.

So sad. The parents, Ian and Lorna Campbell were highly respected musicians themselves especially during the sixties folk revival.

That doesn't make it a good thing, of course.

Actually, those who don't really need it will have probably paid more money in tax anyway. So, I wouldn't begrudge anyone receiving it. The biggest "benefit" with "Universal Benefits" is that nobody can turn around and say "Why should I pay into this when I don't get anything in return?".

Also, those who don't really need it will have probably paid more money in tax anyway. So, I wouldn't begrudge anyone receiving it. The biggest "benefit" with "Universal Benefits" is that "well off" people can't turn around and say "Why should I pay into this when I don't get anything in return?".

The Clock Inn was up the street a wee bit from the filling station towards the Haymarket. Not very far though. I thought it was probably a bit rough so I didn't give it the time of day. 😉 Remember Eric Brown's pub?

Obviously, some members may have unfollowed me for some reason and I also removed quite a few over the years especially the friendly ladies but there was obviously still a "limit" set depending on how one interacted with the platform.

Good luck... Incidentally, I reached around 500 followers in the other place just a few months after I joined. However, the total has remained much the same for the last ten years! I'm not concerned but things were obviously "fixed" somehow over there!

As I've commented before on similar news stories, a pound or so in "Tourist Tax" is neither here or there. The biggest issue is the dynamic pricing policy adopted by hotels and even many B & Bs now where rates can double or even triple from night to night. I'd prefer a correct price for everything.

Welcome. I'm a bit scunnered with X/Twitter too. I deactivated my account there a couple of weeks ago but went back at a weak moment. I'm planning to leave for good eventually though.

"Waverley Valley"? What sort of nonsense is this? It will always be Princes Street Gardens to me. Before that, it was the "Nor Loch".
comment in response to post
It will cost us even more if we ignore it.

Great song. I always associate it with journeys on the "musical buses" (LRT on top deck) during the late seventies although I knew the song long before then. The music usually appealed to everyone but it was no longer needed or welcome after "the Walkman" and descents arrived.

"TV on Radio" used to be his slogan when he was "on the boats".

I agree. Community and "Cottage" hospitals used to play a vital role, in this respect, but a big issue is lack of beds in general. There are far fewer than before regardless of any other pressures which The NHS might be facing.

It became Auld Worthies during the 80s/early 90s. I think it may have reverted back to The Balmoral after that? I'm not sure as I had left the area by then. Although I stayed just a few doors away, I didn't go in that much. The clientele were a bit "mixed" and, besides, The Gravediggers was so near.
comment in response to post
Was that The balmoral and, later, Auld Worthies?

To be fair, she wasn't. The Govt is at Holyrood and she was a WM MP.

Of course, I don't want things to be as severe as it was then. However, some of the more sensible and workable measures might have been retained. If not, we could have done it ourselves instead. However, people are nor even more "pushy" and aggressive than before.

I didn't like the actual "lock down" as such but many of the social distancing measures were actually quite civilised. People were bettered mannered and not "in your face". It was nice to be allowed to have your own space.

He followed me once but I blocked him immediately.

I've no problem with wealthy pensioners receiving it either. They'll have actually paid in much more, anyway Doing away with the "universal" element for such things just gives some "better off" people an excuse to argue "Why should I have to pay for such and such when I don't benefit myself?"

Good single but I prefer the original version by "Tomorrow" featuring Keith West.

Probably my favourite woman singer of all time.

Also Sheena McDonald. Her career was curtailed after a serious road accident was was very sad.

If he doesn't show up, we will assume that he is guilty.

Here's another. Eden Kane of "Well I ask you!" fame. Also Peter Sarstedt's brother...Not a lot of people know that. 😉

Mine is quite harmless. There actually have been worse Tories....

I left it a couple of weeks ago but, sadly, returned at a weak moment. However, I've been trying to tidy things up a bit..e.g. blocking the worst of the right wing accounts which turn up in my "feed" etc.

I still have most of my vinyl apart from that which was stolen at parties. Many years ago, I "traded a few in" but came out of the second hand shop with even more than when I arrived.

I remember Tommy Roe was associated with "bubble gum" e.g. "Dizzy" etc but he'd been around for much longer too and released lots of good songs.
comment in response to post
At the time I was into what they called "Underground" music but I secretly liked Motown and Soul music too.
comment in response to post
Well, I actually had (maybe still 😉) a vinyl album. "Crimson and Clover" was a great favourite and "I think we're alone now". They weren't well known in The UK until "Mony, Mony" and maybe this is the image many people recall.

Actually a better band than people gave them credit for back in the day. They were often dismissed as being a bit "bubble gummy" but there was a lot more to them than that.

She's liked a few of mine too and I've had a good rapport with various folkies and musicians on Twitter. However, I decided to give the platform a break as there's too much bad feeling there. I may change my mind before the 30 days is up. We'll see.

Hello, Bob. I've just left Twitter/X too. Looking forward to hearing you on S of S's too.

Yes, I've often stayed with friends who were better off than myself... Not that difficult for me in my younger days. 😉

Thanks for the follow. I had been following your posts on the other place too.

Good to see you, Carol. The "Countdown" leading to the demise of "X" has begun.

Good to see you. I enjoy hearing and reading your intelligent well considered arguments.

I was very interested since the late seventies and did courses etc. So, very "au fait" with them early on and still grasp most new things. However, I now feel that digital technology is increasingly being used where it isn't necessary and as a form of control. We should always have a choice.

Thank you. I've not gained any followers yet but that's not the end of the world. However, I'm gradually building up a list people to follow and other interesting things.
