The other little-discussed people who will be harmed are university staff & employees (custodial, maintenance, admin, food service, etc) who will lose their jobs, and local businesses (and their employees) in university cities & neighborhoods that will close. Micro-economies will collapse

Or a list of 1000 or more things I did at work last week. That seems to satisfy “approx. 5”

also bad …

Me too.

Thank you for directing me to your previous post. Of course I hadn’t seen it previously. It’s not surprising, because it’s a very rare take compared to the complaints about egg prices and jokes (as you noted: “muh eggs”) that are common and ubiquitous in social media and news sources.
comment in response to post
Yes, I agree. Some people must use Meta or Google in their jobs, but no one has to use it in personal life. And yes, there are some people who must eat eggs as a protein source for medical reasons, but this is a tiny percentage of people. Most people who are reading this can change their behavior
comment in response to post
Complaining and speaking out publicly is excellent! It is extremely important and meaningful
comment in response to post
Ok. Good. Maybe I’m not paying attention to the right sources, but, as examples, I don’t know anyone who has stopped eating eggs (unless they’re unable to find them) and haven’t seen any posts or articles about stopping eating eggs. And I don’t know anyone who has stopped using Google or Meta
comment in response to post
Complaining publicly has great merit. It is very good to loudly complain and speak out against these acts. And, if corporations or conglomerates are abusing, robbing, or price-gouging, people can also stop using or buying their products. Stop using Google & Meta. Stop eating eggs (as examples)

What was his reply?

They won’t come here, and won’t bring their money here, if universities don’t have support for research, or if universities stop accepting PhD students, or if universities don’t exist anymore.
comment in response to post
We are living in an odd era. Corporations (Google, Meta, etc) are stealing identities, and mega producers (eggs, electronics, etc) are price-gouging. But instead of changing their behavior (stop eating eggs, stop using corrupt media, etc) people just complain, while continuing to be abused & robbed

Just say the word out loud. It is very clear.

Don’t use Google. There are many other ways to search the internet. I haven’t used Google search engine for over ten years. It is a simple thing to do.

Sitting outside in the car to avoid meeting your partner’s “really liberal” sister surely says something 😂 haha Also, “really liberal” gave me a good snort-chuckle

Seems a good place to remind people that over 600,000 international students come to the US each year, many for PhD study. They bring over $200 billion in revenue to universities & to the cities & neighborhoods where they live. Losing $200 billion yearly revenue is not good for the US economy

“… allow European, and of course American people to raise issues about it.” “raise issues” opens a very wide window for white people to respond in almost any way they want: insults, hate speech, segregation, racist laws, deportation, violence, war…
comment in response to post
You’re asking people if they would fire 30% of their staff, have 30% less facilities, 30% less administration, and continue with 30% lower results? What happens to all those suddenly unemployed people? And what about the people who might die in the future because of less research innovation?
comment in response to post
So, he’s exactly like a crime boss: either break the law the way I ask you to, or I’ll cut off your funding support. This is how a person builds a criminal network, by coercing others to do crimes.

The republicans will use this to their advantage as election strategy: “Things are so bad, the world is falling apart, people are dying; We can’t change course during this horrific time, that could only make things worse. We need a stable consistent government. It’s the only way we will survive”
comment in response to post
It’s very possible that by this time next year, things will be so deeply and comprehensively bad that people will be desperate for any stability in life. Voting to keep a maniacal, tyrannical regime in power will be seen and felt as positive stability by people who are suffering and dying.

The FBI is a dangerous organization with a history and capability for dangerous, corrupt, destructive, and often illegal and immoral acts. Patel is a dangerous man who has expressed dangerous, corrupt, immoral, and illegal ideas. Putting these together is certainly dangerous.
comment in response to post
Did anyone ask follow up questions, such as: “What specific actions during his first term convinced you that he had business acumen or would conduct acts with a fine-tooth comb?” or “Why do you believe a man who was convicted of felony fraud & declared bankruptcy 6 times has business acumen?”

No. Wrong. He made a gesture that is the Sieg Heil salute, used by Nazis to signify allegiance to Hitler. Elon Musk also made this salute at an inauguration rally. This salute is used by Neo Nazis to signify white supremacy, it is illegal in Germany. It is hate speech in Canada & most of Europe

Patel plans to take the FBI back to its J.Edgar Hoover roots: creating paranoid conspiracy theories & ‘enemies the state’ lists, criminalizing dissent & protest, arresting (and/or murdering) non-loyalists, social justice leaders, & other so-called ‘instigators.’ Of course Republicans welcome this

( sorry ) Everyone just ignore that previous message, go about your life as usual. Of course sports games are real and super meaningful.
comment in response to post
Well actually, none of the games really mean anything. It’s just fun. Shhh… don’t tell anyone 🤫 especially not the players
comment in response to post
Haha. I never really thought about it before, but in my long sports-watching life, I’ve never rooted for a USA men’s team in any international competition.

Yep. I only know one way to teach, mentor, and advise. I plan to continue the same pedagogy and curriculum, and continue adding more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and critical sources and methodologies every semester.

Ugh. I trust the Cubs to know players performance and potential, and team need (as well as trade value, if this turns into a minor trade) But as a fan, this is such a disappointing decision for so many reasons. I’d much rather they give Workman back to the Tigers.

But…. Because of regular season blackouts, there’s no reason to pay a subscription for MLBtv.

Absolutely, and it’s even less likely it’s “just joking” if the “joke” is something about the person speaking. Nobody is ever “just joking” about themselves. Also, there’s no reason to ever believe someone is “just joking” if you’ve never seen them laugh.
comment in response to post
Absolutely. Now is the perfect time to put this back into national conversation. Put them on the defensive. Make them say no publicly, and vote against things.

1980s high school popularity cliques were all about rewarding rich, privileged, good-looking, mostly white kids, teaching them to feel supreme and above the law, and training society that this is the way.
