I use qualitative and computational methods to study writers on the internet. I study how machine learning experts communicate. More generally, I study writing and writers. Associate professor. https://publish.illinois.edu/johnrgallagher/

I scan for any glaring things I'm missing. I had one comment about the student presentations that I agree with. I did a question about AI (in a course about teaching high school writing) that I learned a lot from. At this point, and it might seem silly, but I'm proud I have such a record of them.

A longstanding problem for science journalism, unfortunately. Made worse by declines in science journalists. (journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....)

I think it's a way of saying we can't really go. Covid was always going to pass. "The post 9/11 era" was a common phrase for 10+ years. I think the US still grapples with the consequences of that event too.

Perfection, Conversations w/ Friends + Such a Fun Age.... I'd include representations of SV culture like Ripe + books that BookTok made famous or ones you could pair w/VERY ONLINE threads...a unit on tech memoir genre... I'd probably include 1 I didn't "co-sign" for discussion/doxa purposes.

Loads. At the top of the list is Egan's Candy House, which technologizes the book/reading in contrast (not opposition) to Big Tech ("Black Box" is also in there--1st serialized short story on Twitter). We Had to Remove this Post, Yellowface, Broken Monsters, No One is Talking About This...

"Representation" is what lies beneath all of the metrics and benchmarks. What *is* an F1 score?
