I am very sympathetic to the constraints teachers work under, but there are examples in the article that amount to giving up on teaching students to write (and read) and it really worries me. This is what I'm fighting against in More Than Words. www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/john-...

ICYMI, all technology is a surveillance tool

If you haven't read @sarahkendzior.bsky.social yet, now is the time. "There is a reason that the Trump administration is banning study of historically targeted groups — Native Americans, Black Americans — and it is not “DEI”. substack.com/home/post/p-... #academicsky 🧪

Happy Black History Month

"In other countries, this would be called 'an authoritarian coup.' In America, mealy-mouthed officials call our transition into a mafia state 'deeply troubling' and do little to curb the damage." -- HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT (2020)

To understand Trump's trajectory and the lack of prosecution, you need to understand the trajectory of Meyer Lansky. From THEY KNEW (2022):

"History was written by the winners, and the winners were assholes." --THEY KNEW (2022)

The official White House account just referred to Trump as a “king” and posted an image with a crown on his head. They’re not even hiding it.

What if I told y’all that race is, in fact, not an immutable characteristic? It is a construct created to parce power, opportunity and economic advantage. A person racialized as Black might be 10% African or 100%, but regardless of genetics, they share a common history of exclusion.

“Google deleted Black History Month and other cultural items without disclosure, and it did so not only for 2025 and beyond but also for previous years retroactively. It feels a bit Orwellian, as if the past was erased, and the erasure forgotten.”

Way deep into Dear Leader territory.

It should go without saying, but perhaps not: Removing uncomfortable histories because they fail to glorify the dominant group in power is not the sign of a healthy and free society.

SCOOP: The top US election security watchdog has frozen all of its efforts to aid states in securing elections. The move represents the first major example of the country’s cyber defense agency accommodating Trump’s false claims of election fraud and online censorship.

the power consolidation threat of AI is no longer academic

“The collapse of democracy, rule of law, and climate at once leaves us with one lesson: the truth may hurt, but the lies will kill you.” — They Knew: How a Culture of Conspiracy Keeps America Complacent by Sarah Kendzior a.co/2lzKZ4h

It’s almost like “ai” is a massive scheme to devalue, and destabilize labor while shifting power back into the hands of corporations.
