As a European I just can't get my head round this. A family member had a mini health scare a few weeks ago - scans and specialists all arranged in a couple of weeks on the NHS and it cost precisely nothing. They were OK too btw.

A trans woman wrote to Wetherspoons to ask which toilets they're meant to use. Wetherspoons replied acknowledging the Supreme Court's verdict...and that trans customers can use whichever loos they want to but to please lock the cubicle door. Labour now being outflanked on the left by Wetherspoons.

The Supreme Court case arose because the Scottish Government issued guidance that went well beyond what the law actually says. It feels like there’s every chance the EHRC has just made exactly the same error in the opposite direction. And it could just as easily end up back in court as a result.

As many of us have pointed out, the judgement gave no kind of clarity. This new EHRC guidance is horrible to read, with numerous practical inconsistencies and injustices for all our daily lives not just trans people.
