Really enjoying the stories about congressmen getting yelled at about DOGE shit in their town halls. Not because I feel like it's necessarily going to move things in the right direction in the next election cycle or two, really. I just like stories about congressmen getting yelled at I think.

A deep dive into DOGE data discovers a disturbing directory of discrepancies, distortions, delusions, and deception. Dismal. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

there's simultaneously two major trendlines occurring with this administration 1. laying waste to a lot of what keeps government/society stable in a really reckless way 2. loudly telegraphing that they see themselves as above accountability ("what are you gonna do?")

I’m struck by how much the most vehement theocrats behave like they don’t fear the judgment of an angry God

How it started. How it’s going

Stop mass deportations with this one simple trick: wapo.st/41apYFB (gift link)

the reason that the american right are leaning *hard* into their immorality - which they themselves understand very clearly to be immoral - is, at the bottom of it, they don’t believe in *anything*.

it is shocking the extent to which they openly sneer at morality

Even if it was real, there’s literally nothing the “woke agenda” could do to our government that is half as harmful as conducting massive barely-coordinated purges of longtime federal employees working on critical matters of state

i think it is cool that de facto first consul of the united states is a drug-addled maniac and deadbeat dad with a breeding fetish

trump wants to be able to tell the USPS not to deliver ballots to blue states www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

I understand why these stories exist but it’s important to be clear that he’s not “saving” 16 billion, he’s choosing, personally, without oversight, to wipe out 16 billion dollars of government services to veterans and the disabled and food safety etc etc

They screwed this all up.

Russia has the same favorables as Hamas. But Democrats are convinced talking about anything but cost of living is a dead end

Trump official announces that Trump has signed an executive order claiming that only the president can speak for “what the law is” (This is not how the Constitution works)

Trumpists will continue to be furious at any dissent no matter how much power they steal. That’s because the administration is premised on pathological insecurity. They’re shitty people, they know it, and they will never stop resenting being seen as shitty people.

i really wish the media took the online world seriously because these people are all fucking nazis

It’s safe to say there is a major continuity between the politics of the tech oligarchs and the fundamentals currently driving the software industry; that is to say, they are in search of infinite free rent at the expense of everyone else, up to and including the very people who make it possible.

Now that musk is saying he’s doing the DOGE stuff “because the globalists have plotted a Great Replacement in which they use government handouts to buy votes from illegal immigrants and urban blacks” maybe we don’t have to act like this is about deficits or cost cutting anymore

why hasnt a single reporter asked “how does a pronoun in an email signature effect military readiness” of anyone in power? why doesnt anyone challenge the original freaking premise ever

“The American team has almost no experience in high-level international negotiation, no regional expertise on Ukraine and Russia, and no relevant foreign language knowledge."

"I wonder what this relatively small account that Elon Musk follows is?" "Oh I see, it just posts porn and Nazism only."

Quite an exchange here between Judge Reyes and DOJ attorney on how "pronoun usage" affects military readiness.

Super glad we torched our reputation with one of our closest allies by continually dangling a self-destructive trade war threat over their head, brilliant 14 Dimensional Chess move here

Everyone who pays alot of attention to politics right now is losing their mind because it’s really difficult to understand how the majority of people are just like “yep living my life, oh a program to hire more women? Idk sounds good to me, I voted Trump to lower inflation hopefully he’s doing that”

📌I was the managing editor at Stars and Stripes and can tell you that Pete Hegseth is the first SecDef I am aware of to be openly booed by military families on a military base. 📌This is the most significant pushback I have seen to this administration's racist, hostile initiatives.

I will put it this way: if I am facing down an armed agent of the state and relying on them not being willing to pull the trigger on me I would much rather that person be in the army than be a cop

This is corruption on a scale unseen before in American history. www.dropsitenews.com/p/elon-musk-...

I think we should consider that Trump's fascist push is extremely reliant on momentum, on institutions not having time to say "wait a second, executive orders aren't laws, we still have a Constitution," and we should consider whether mounting setbacks are opening up an opportunity for counterattack

Wall Street's touching the stove moment might end up being not tariffs or debt default, but rather DOGE techbros causing a bank run by carelessly demonstrating they can now yank funds out of commercial bank accounts on a whim. A very pure distilled demonstration of no rule of law, no capitalism.

Fuck yeah look at this thing

i'm not tuning out. i am specifically trying to drive this newspaper into bankruptcy.

🤷🏻

The way the leadership of institutions -- tech, media, and education have shown a lack of spine should be a lesson that resounds through the ages.

We are in the middle of the most profound crisis of American government since the civil war and our idiotic political media can barely see it. Control of the US has been handed to a totally unelected oligarch whose politics are defined by close association with neo-Nazis and conspiracy theorists

Yeah. And China's laughing all the way to Davos. Foreign Strongmen Cheer as Musk Dismantles U.S. Aid Agency www.nytimes.com/2025/02/05/w...

Turns out “what if we encourage unfuckable behavior while turning the country into somewhere nobody would want to start a family” is not solid pronatalist policy.

The American right-wing's favorite overseas authoritarian, whose policies they want to replicate here, is literally presiding over the demographic collapse of his country.

I’ve been trying to find a way to describe what Musk is doing to the government. He’s not taking orders from the White House, he’s not pursuing any kind of consistent ideological project other than wreaking havoc. He’s not following any laws and appears to exist outside any other authority.

"You know what’s bad for business? Fucking Donald Trump! A psycho idiot fucking shit up constantly and destabilizing the world and robbing businesses of all ability to trust the rule of law and predict the future with some degree of confidence." www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/the-busine...

If the goal of this was to own people like me, I will 110% admit to being owned. I just didn’t think owning me was worth destroying the American economy, state capacity, global respect and soft power abroad, reserve currency’s status, and science and technological dominance.

just an enormous, alarming failure that they're still in there and not under arrest.

New from 404 Media: inside the gov meeting where Musk ally laid out plans for data sharing across gov/AI. We got audio. In the call an employee pushed back and said the plan would be “illegal.” Musk ally said “we should still push forward and see what we can do.” www.404media.co/things-are-g...
