Just got an email from the Fulbright Association. As of right now, funding has been cut off to 12,500 US citizens currently abroad and and more than 7,400 foreigner scholars and students in the United States

A few days ago, I posted about how authoritarian leaders fear student activism. I wrote a new article dives much deeper into this pattern – and why Trump's recent threats are so revealing. It's a global, historical phenomenon. (Short 🧵⬇️)

Withdrawal of US forces completed under Biden but the decision was Trump’s deal with the Taliban, just as the decision to abandon + endanger these women is Musk acting for Trump. It’s a disgusting betrayal: let’s get the facts straight, since Trump is negotiating another disastrous deal with Russia.

excellent example of "accounting system as mental prison" - if you cut the social care budget and put the responsibility onto families, it looks like you have more money to spend on military investment, but the actual amount of labour hours available has probably shrunk

Eddie Dempsey being elected gen sec of the RMT is a good example of what the “just get to four per cent of GDP via cuts elsewhere” people are missing. If Europe has the will to arm itself, Russia can only defeat it at the ballot box, precisely by co-opting “it is welfare or warfare”.

Many of the scientists that the Trump administration is defunding and persecuting will be working on strategically important technologies and research areas. The UK and other European countries should urgently establish programmes to bring those researchers here.

Least surprising thing ever.

The corruption is the point.

I’m glad my parents aren’t around to see Vance’s insult. Born in WWII’s shadow, they served in the RAF as the US and UK together opposed Soviet expansion. For 80 years, rightly or wrongly, we followed the US into combat. Vance lectures about gratitude but he only knows how to commit treachery.

Corruption is the point.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in remarks aired on Sunday that the United States's dramatic shift in foreign policy largely aligns with its own vision ➡️ u.afp.com/S3iU

As Donald Trump turns the United States into one of the closest allies Russia has worldwide, it's worth revisiting the news item below, which came out immediately after Trump won a surprising victory in November:

Our leaders need to grasp very quickly that you can’t do a deal with a narcissistic abuser. Because they fundamentally believe aggression is the only winning strategy. They will use deception to mask this but they will never negotiate a tolerable deal with anyone.

It is important that people understand and accept as fact that our government is compromised. I don't mean compromised in some cloak-and-dagger sense, I simply mean that this government no longer accepts core democratic principles and is angling toward an autocracy that's part of a New Axis of Evil.

It’s past time to update our assumptions with new data. A bridge to what, exactly?

Two hills I will die on no matter how many learned men claim otherwise. Misogyny is an extremist ideology, and massacring little girls is terrorism.

New #NuffieldFunded @edupolicyinst.bsky.social report led by @jojohutchinson.bsky.social reveals significant disparities in SEND identification across England schools. 📰Guardian coverage: www.theguardian.com/education/20... 📖Full report & recommendations: www.nuffieldfoundation.org/project/pupi...

🚨Today, the Education Policy Institute, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, has published a new report on Identifying SEND. The report provides evidence of the inequalities that exist in SEND support across schools in England. Read the full report 👉 epi.org.uk/wp-content/u... Main findings👇

Some pupils in England less likely to have special needs identified, study shows

All teachers should be trained on special educational needs to help end 'postcode lottery', report says

‘pupils attending academies – rather than schools maintained by local authorities – or those living in heavily academised areas were less likely to be identified as having special educational needs when compared with other pupils.’ www.theguardian.com/education/20...

Pupils who frequently miss class or are suspended during primary school should be assessed for special educational needs, a new report into SEND support recommends

@xianjaneway.bsky.social My brother in law was just laid off because he works for an NGO in South Africa that is funded by USAID… he has been working for them for years.

It seems to me profoundly illogical to think that because they in 2019 suspected the mother was a risk that the father’s already determined risk somehow vanished. To my understanding a new step parent does not eliminate risk. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Is there anything less edifying than these craven sycophants begging favours from a fascist criminal?

The US is replacing education with wrestling to distract people from its president selling favours on the international black market. It doesn’t seem like a great time to cut defence spending tbh.

NEW POST: Alternative Provision expert and SEND parent, @phoenixedsarah.bsky.social says too many schools exclude without first assessing for SEND. Sarah says asking “why” and understanding needs should be at the core of a school’s work www.specialneedsjungle.com/arrive-alter... #SEND #SENDSky

Don’t like a book? Don’t read it. Pretty simple.

looks like the cable news anchors are finally asking minor questions like “what does a mass deportation actually look like” and “are you going to deport citizen children?”

There’s very little I can do about what’s going to happen in America, to Ukraine, and throughout the world. But I have a memory like an elephant and will not spend a penny more at Amazon after what Bezos did. Christmas books ordered from Waterstones + Blackwells.

It had a motive, alright. Ask any woman. You don’t target little girls unless you are a vicious misogynist. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
