For @tanaudel.bsky.social’s benefit, part of a pre-order confirmation of the e-book format of her book to come out in September, purchased through the Kobo Australia online shop. Quote posted so that any of my compatriots reading this might look at the link to the reel, should they wish to do so.

Thanks to the fact that prickly pear was fashionable in one part of the 20th century, I have the lines from a poem running through my head now: “From Slav to Arunta The world acclaims chromium And a smiling Opuntia Decks each happy home-ium

We’ve had the carpet in the dining room & Mum’s workroom replaced with vinyl flooring of the same pattern as most of the rest of the house. It was in poor condition & Mum’s wheelchair wasn’t helping it at all. Unfortunately, Mum’s rather battered desk didn’t like being moved.

It serves me right. I didn’t cover my mug of Milo when I went to help Mum put a warm top on, & Bailey took the opportunity to drink from it. I know he did it because his whiskers are a slightly darker brown, & he went all lucky with his tongue in the air. Cheeky devil enjoyed that.

A little while ago I said I’d seen a friend’s dog for what I couldn’t help thinking was the last time. Our friend has just passed on the news: the lovely Maggie, a very sweet Airedale, passed away on Friday. She will be missed, not just by her human, but her human will miss her very very much.

Have taken the dogs out & given them breakfast. It is dark & cold outside. Back in bed now, & just turned off the bedside lamp. It wobbled like someone punchdrunk, & had to be kept from falling over the gap between bed & table.

For Pete’s sake. The wind has decided to alert us to a need to fix our back fence by tearing a panel off. I retrieved the panel, propped it horizontally against the nearest fence panels & stuck a plant pot up against that in the interests of keeping Bailey in. That’s the best I can do for now.

I need to check if it’s snowing on the Barringtons. That wind can’t be all the way from the Snowy Mountains, could it?

Jasper had another episode of being unable to get up this afternoon. I managed to get one boot on to his back legs. He made it clear he didn’t want the other one on him. So now Jasper is walking around, one booted foot tapping, & his expression is as mildly displeased as a dog can get.

The BoM website is forecasting possible snow on the Barrington Tops in the Upper Hunter Valley in the next few days. It never snows heavily there, but it’s enough to freeze the blood of the entire valley when the wind comes through. And it always comes through when there’s snow.

Oh dear…

My scarves have arrived from Vinnies Finds, and I have one of them around my neck right now. It’s very wintry out there, & I had to collect Jasper’s tablets from the vet clinic. The BoM app told me that the temperature felt like it was under 5 degrees C. That’s not fun for near the coast.

That’s a relief. They got Ian Roberts to comment on the “Run It Straight” football phenomenon not because he’s gay but because he’s just been diagnosed with epilepsy related to his rugby league playing career. I’d wondered about the “straight” part, until I found out that /cont.

As of tomorrow, it will be winter here officially. Alas, I cannot hibernate, due to obligations. But I really want to.

Well, I looked, and I found some scarves. $30 to St Vinnies for charity, and $10 postage. Not usually an op shop person, but this might be something to keep an eye on if I’m looking for something in particular.

Note to @cathywilcox.bsky.social: my order from your shop has arrived safely. Thank you. Am also impressed that you tried to locate my address within the indigenous landscape.

Okay, who let winter out a few days early? Whoever you are, you have my disapproval whether you want it or not.

My timeline provides the words Natee cannot bring themself to say right now.

Bailey is a very satisfied dog. He’s had leftover vegetables with a little bit of lamb, & practically inhaled them, they were eaten so quickly. Now he has a human’s lap to curl up on. Nothing better!

Small goals achieved: two loads of washing on the rotary clothesline in the backyard today, dried by sun & wind. No rain. Glorious.

The sun has disappeared again, but it doesn’t seem to be raining. Yet. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny but we will see. The weather can change its mind.

Jasper, you can go outside. I know you can. Even if you’re an old doggie, & somewhat incontinent, I know you could go outside if you wanted to. Don’t make me suspect some of these puddles I’ve had to mop today are out of spite.
