I know there are people who wanted abortion law reform to go further but ultimately this is a positive milestone, which, once signed into law, will mean that no one is prosecuted for ending their own pregnancy. This is great news.

In the linked essay, I mention Nancy Mace's standard TERF question, asked most recently to Tim Walz: "What is a woman?" My answer is simple. A woman is not a *what.* A woman is a *who.* I want to expand a bit from the essay on what I think this matters. www.the-reframe.com/shows-of-wea...

It's only in retrospect that I realise how lucky I was to grow up in a household full of sci-fi and fantasy books. The photos here show bits of Dad's collection; Mum is (like me) more on the fantasy side of SFF, but I certainly dipped my toe into a good few of these.

These people have to account for the deep hatred and revulsion they feel when watching others act out of sincerity, courage and compassion. It threatens and bewilders them, so they must explain it away as something they recognise and understand: moral vapidity and self-absorption

Will say, the bizarre, overwhelming hate Greta received for years, from random English "comedians" to French cartoonists to even Japanese & Chinese personalities etc, was a real mask-off moment; where it turns out many men were actually sleazy shitheels who lusted about beating their wives & kids

I’m trying to find words to describe how evil this is, but I’ll stick to noting EHRC commissioners lack any legitimacy; Reindorf is using the abuser’s tactic of DARVO; and asserts that law is not what it does, but what she wants it to be (but also it’s always been what she says it is)

The main thing that comes through to me about this piece is just how *forced* it is - it's an attempt to seem to acknowledge the polling evidence that then relies on carefully omitting ignoring particularly inconvenient features of it. 1/
